What is Global Entry?
A couple weeks ago we posted about TSA PreCheck, and how great it is to have, even if you only travel a couple times a year. However, PreCheck is only a domestic travel program. Global Entry is a similar program, allowing expedited clearance for low risk travelers, but applies when you return back to the United States from another country (available at nearly 80 airports)!
You may be wondering, what are the benefits of Global Entry? We would love to share some of our favorites!
✈️ First, you get all the perks of TSA PreCheck!
✈️ When arriving back at a US airport, you get to use the Global Entry line which most of the time has no one in it! This can save you hours of time from standing in line.
✈️ The process is fast and smooth. Either a photo or face scan is used to verify your membership in the program, then you proceed to an officer who will confirm you have completed the process!
This perks to Global Entry are so great, especially when traveling with kids. However, there is one downside to the program that differs from PreCheck. Every single person traveling needs to be accepted to the Global Entry program to go through the special line, children included. They cannot accompany a parent who has Global Entry if they do not, unlike PreCheck.
So, how do you enroll in Global Entry? You must first submit an application online. After being conditionally approved, you will be required to complete your enrollment by scheduling an interview at an enrollment Center, or by completing your interview upon arrival into the United States at an Enrollment on Arrival location. Once accepted, your membership in the program lasts 5 years! While the fee for this is a bit more than PreCheck, at $120 per person, the time and headaches it can save over the course of five years of international travel is amazing! And don't forget, Global Entry includes PreCheck for any domestic travel you may do in that time period as well!
