If you want to travel by RV Motorhome (Class A, B, or C) but find the thought of towing a car to be a challenge you prefer not to have, there are ways to still enjoy the travel without the challenges of hooking up a tow car.

I am no longer RV'ing. If anyone wants to take over this page please let me know and I'll transfer it to you. All I ask is that I retain "credit" with a mention as the creator.

I am spending the summer in West Yellowstone, MT as a paid workamper. During May, I needed to fly to another state to attend a wedding. Air service doesn't begin in West Yellowstone until June. Bus Shuttle service to the Bozeman Airport also doesn't begin until June. So, the way I planned to deal with this was:

1. There are two car rental agencies. Big Sky Car Rentals and Budget. Budget doesn't open until June. So I rented a car from Big Sky. (cost: $49 per day OUCH, but they do give AAA discounts...)

2. Drive car rented from Big Sky to Bozeman, MT. Airport, where it will be parked for two days (one-way rental wasn't possible).

3. Fly to the city near the wedding.

4. Rent a second car from the airport in the destination city. ( real cheap, AAA motor club rates of $15 per day....)

5. Fly back to Bozeman, return to West Yellowstone in car I rented in West Yellowstone that is still parked at Bozeman Airport.

Well, that was the plan...... But my flight from Bozeman got cancelled. So, I spent the weeekend in Bozeman and didn't get to go to the wedding......

In June, there is Airline service to West Yellowstone. However, I am not sure what the ticket prices are. It may still be cheaper to fly out of Bozeman and rent a car.

I see someone subscribed to "events." Thank you, I appreciate this, but I haven't planned any "events" yet. Maybe I will consider this.

Because of some negative stories I have heard in association with UBER, I'm not recommending, nor am I trying UBER at this time in conjunction with RVing toadless.

I have a Class C with a computer desk in it. It was a "custom." I love the computer desk! It's small, no room for the printer, barely room for the laptop and wireless Landline setup. But I find that using a laptop (keyboard and even the touchpad mouse) on this desk causes issues with your posture and some muscles. So, I got a wireless keyboard. I also got a USB mouse. I use the wireless keyboard on my lap and can still keep good posture at the computer. And the USB mouse has also helped because using the touchpad on the laptop causes me to have to contort in a position that causes issues in the Trapezieus area. However, because of the location and configuration of the desk, I have to use the mouse left handed. Took some adjustment, but I like it.

If you decide to rent cars while you are in your RV, I highly recommend getting American Express Car Rental Insurance. It's $19.95 PER RENTAL (not per day) up to a maximum of 30 days. The $19.95 is good for one day or 30 days (45 days in some states, but in my state it's 30 days). It covers loss and damages to the rental car. However, it does not cover liability. Only loss and damages. But it's a good deal if you rent cars often.

Temps are freezing where I am. Normally, my preference is to remove my hose and fill up the water tank even if I have to do it daily. But the RV park where I am currently staying has a small water issue so I don't want to put the water in my tank (yet I'm running it through my system anyway, oh well....). So, I was forced to buy a heated hose. Here is an example:

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Camco-Taste-Pure-Heated-Drinking-Hose/1876955.uts?productVariantId=3963046&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=40-114782052-2&WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=03977039&rid=20

Had to pay about $90 for a 12 foot hose. You should see my setup. The RV park plugged a three way plug in into the 110 outlet. In that plug in, they already have a heater for the water faucet plugged in. Then, I had to plug in my heated hose. And third, I had to wrap heat tape (here is an example: http://mobilehomepartsstore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=165245&Store_Code=MHPS&gdftrk=gdfV21960_a_7c335_a_7c7818_a_7c4150&gclid=CO7jgbfrpMkCFYmCfgodVeALfA )

around my Camco water filter attached to the hose.

Have safe drinking water even when the temperature drops to -40°F with the Camco Taste Pure Heated Drinking Hose. Available:  12 ft., 25 ft., 50 ft.

Another good way to go is to plan to spend some time at a destination that has enough to "do" without your needing to leave. But, you have to plan carefully for food and supplies to ensure you can last the entire time. Menu planning is a must!

08/11/2015

Once in awhile, you are at a place where there is nothing to walk to, and you can't ride your scooter or bicycle. That's when you try to depend on taxis or rental cars. In the absence of that, you plan ahead and get enough food to last until you can unhook and go somewhere in the RV.

Just found out that if you have a Costco card, Enterprise Rental Car will give you some sort of discount.

Among many reasons I travel without a tow car is..... I end up doing a lot of walking. Such as.... walking to a bus stop, walking to stores from RV parks that are close by, etc. To me, doing this "walking" is about....."getting from Point A to Point B in an economical way." The fact that I get "exercise" from it is a by-product. You see, the word "Exercise" to me is a BAD BAD WORD! The word evokes memories of running laps in the gym and doing jumping jacks. HATED IT!

Between 2004 and 2015, I traveled with a beloved pet cat. Many times I have worried about.... "what if my cat needs emergency vet service?" My "mantra" of "if I need it, it will be there" has worked for me. One time, there was a vet 1 mile from where I was staying, so I rode my cat to the vet on my little scooter bike. Cat was in carrier, I put carrier on foot area on my bike and straddled it. Another time, I was staying in a park that granted me permission for "in and out" during my stay (some parks won't let you do that....) so I could drive my cat to the vet. And, this last summer in Altoona, IA, in the middle of the night, I called a taxi to take my cat to an emergency vet. Whatever I needed for the situation was there for me.

My main "mantra" I use when I travel is.... "If I need it, it will be there for me." This has worked many times.

Traveling without a tow car presents some challenges. There have been times I have had to pack up once a week just to do laundry or get my mail. The advantage is that you run your motor, this helps in that you aren't "sitting" for a long time. The disadvantage is that it's a royal pain to pack up once a week.
