After a hot day of riding, we enjoyed a day off in Coimbra. It was Portugal Day, so it was a very festive night. We also had a walking tour of the city this morning. Back on bikes tomorrow. Some beautiful countryside and hilly terrain ahead. Show must go on :-)

First 2 days of riding are behind us. We have been copying the coast so far. Had a gondola boat tour in Aveiro last night... We'll leave the coast tomorrow for a while, riding to the historical city of Coimbra, arguably the most beautiful city in Portugal. Some hills on the way, but nothing too demanding :-)

Visited Taiwan last week to explore the potential for a cycling tour on this beautiful island. Drove around the entire island and reconnected with some of our cyclists from the 2017 Prague to Budapest tour—such a great reunion with lots of wonderful memories! :-) Also met with Eric from Bike Explorer, who organizes amazing road bike tours here..

When I visited my wife’s family in Michigan earlier this month, I had the privilege to meet and to ride with Sue Brewer and the Chaingang. Sue was so kind to lend me a bike for their regular Tuesday afternoon ride around Gull Lake. After the ride, we all enjoyed a couple of beers at Thunder Bird. Among the people I talked to, there were three survivors of the notorious 2016 accident, when a driver on drugs drove a pickup truck into a group of 9 cyclists, all members of the Chaingang. He killed 5 of them, 4 survived. It is a very, very sad story and I feel privileged that the three survivors shared the story and their feelings with me… Anyway, thank you, Jen Mancuso, for getting us in touch, and thank you, Sue Brewer, for making it happen and for the bike 😊. Hope we will cycle together again at some point!
