The Black women in these tales are women we all know. The mothers, wives, business owners, creatives, and more, that we see in everyday life. They perform the impossible and hold all ends together.
Sometimes, they’re an open book, their stories written in the beloved lines of their faces and the varied bodies they wear with pride or weariness.
Other times, their secrets squirm beneath the surface, aching for release and discovery while beckoning others to lean in. They whisper the horror of their predicaments, closer to home than you realize.
These Black women are more than we know. They’re also victims, monsters…and often, a little of both.

The Tryst by L. Marie Wood

A moment in time… insignificant and fleeting for most, but for Nicole, Mark, and Eric, it is life-altering. Three strangers meet in a town they don’t know in a place they hadn’t expected to end up only to find that they are exactly where they were supposed to be… again. Love always finds a way. Through space and time, past and future, through lifetimes and storylines, they were destined to find each other, love each other, lose each other—coordinates and weapons, scenarios and demographics be damned. A malfunction, to be sure. But when Ryan tries to tinker with his project, a weapon the likes of which has never been seen in all of the Galactic Collaborative, he finds out just how inexorable their link is… and how insidious. The beginning of an experimental series that will challenge the way you think about love, life, connection, and purpose, The Tryst will catch you in its whirlwind and never let you go. Each book in the Affinity series will combine of mixture of mystery, thriller, psychological horror, action, suspense, science fiction elements in differing measures, always with romance as an undercurrent. Love always finds a way. But sometimes that way is paved with bones.

A tremendous anthology of stories brought together by editors Laurel Hightower and James Sabata to benefit the Glen Haven Volunteer Fire Dept in Colorado. Every author delivered a wonderful story; some gripping, some haunting, all terrifying in some way. I'd like to select a few stand-out stories, but I'd be selecting almost every single story. I will say opening with "All the Ways to Hollow Out a Girl" by Gwendolyn Kiste makes for an immediate impact, and then to follow-up with "Second Chances", a moving tale by Stephen Graham Jones, keeps the momentum going. "The Reliquarians" by former firefighter S.A. Bradley hits particularly hard, given their experience and the purpose of the anthology, but also because it feels like a deeply personal story. And ending with an emotionally charged story by Craig Wallwork - "The Weight of Vinegar" - makes me want to stand up and applaud. But then, every story was great in its own way. All due credit to the passion and effort of the editors, who have created an excellent collection for a great cause.-Thomas Joyce, Amazon Reviewer

I am an avid reader of books of all genres; mostly reading by ‘kindle-light’ late at night when insomnia strikes. I have read all of the works by this author and excitedly awaited the release of her latest book. I must say I was not disappointed. ‘The Realm’ delves into an area that a lot of horror writers will not address; what happens to us after we die and what if Heaven and Hell are not the only options? Giving the reader an antithetic view on what most believe would happen, L. Wood opens our minds to other possibilities. Definitely a page turner, one that I finished in one sitting. This book left me with one burning question on my mind; WHEN DOES THE NEXT BOOK COME OUT?!?!-Mel, Amazon Reviewer

I had so much trouble putting this book down. I laughed with them, I cried for them… The concept this book outlines truly speaks to me on such a visceral level. I absolutely fell for Nicole, Mark and Eric. To have the connection found among this group is a gift that few can find and to accept one another to the level they do is awe inspiring. I look forward to the new installment in this series!- Tracy Bartolone, Amazon Reviewer

All the stars...I've been anticipating this collection since I first saw it announced. I've read RJ Joseph's short fiction wherever I could find it, ever since catching her haunting story in TWISTED ANATOMY. Every story between these (gorgeous) covers is strongly written in Joseph's inimitable voice. An ongoing theme of motherhood and lived experiences turned toward horror in every conceivable way. Hard to choose favorites here, but ones that stood out especially were LEFT HAND TORMENT, I GET MAD, TOO, SOMETIMES, I WOULD HAVE RESCUED THEM ALL, and KEEP ON TRUCKING (which I got to hear the author read at the Ghoulish Book Fest, and loved as much the second time around.)-Laurel Hightower, Amazon Reviewer
