Simplify Your Thanksgiving Travels!
ResortBrat.com
This Thanksgiving, the airline industry expects 12.3 million round trip passengers and AAA expects 46.3 million Americans to hit the road. Here are expert tips and tricks for making one of the busiest travel holidays of the year easier than ever. You can thank us later!

Be Mindful and Thoughtful
Can holiday travel feel stressful? Does it help to take out your frustration on fellow passengers and travelers? It doesn't have to be this way. Frame your journey as an exciting adventure. Everyone traveling has a similar goal to celebrate Thanksgiving with loved ones. Practice slowing your breathing if long lines or traffic are causing you stress.

Travel Light
Everyone flying will be packing carry-ons to accommodate their journey. Overhead compartments will fill up quickly. Try to pack everything into a backpack that will fit under the seat in front of you. If you have gifts or bulky items, consider shipping them to your final destination ahead of time.

Travel at Odd Times
The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year, closely followed by the Sunday after the big day. Fly to your destination a few days early and fly back on Friday when the masses are out shopping the best deals of the year. Drive through the night to avoid traffic.

Stay Connected
Smartphone users can take advantage of apps that provide updates on airline statuses, road traffic, weather, and current news. Social media is a great resource to be the first place to hear about anything that might go wrong with your flight. Airlines can also be more responsive to public pleas of assistance on social media.

Tips for Flying with Gifts!
If you're celebrating the holidays away from home, you may be wrestling with how to get gifts to your loved ones. With careful planning and packing, however, you can get your gifts safely to their destination. Read up on our favorite tips for flying with gifts.

Flying with Wrapped Gifts
Wrapped gifts are allowed in both carry-ons and checked luggage. However, airport security may need to open gifts as part of their inspections, but it is rare. To decrease the likelihood of your gifts being unwrapped, pack them in your checked luggage rather than your carry-on.

Flying with Edible Gifts
Be sure to factor where your baggage is stored during flight, especially edible gifts as they may be prone to spoiling or melting. Bag and cushion perishable gifts with clothing to avoid a mess in your suitcase. Keep in mind, any liquids or sauces that exceed 3.4 oz. will need to go into your checked luggage.

Flying with Valuable or Irreplaceable Gifts
Carry valuables onto the plane in a small carry-on bag and place it beneath the seat in front of you. The only way to ensure your items are not damaged, stolen, or lost is to carry them yourself. An alternative is to ship valuables via a shipping service that includes insurance and tracking.

Flying Home with Gifts You Receive
Pack a sturdy duffel bag to use as an additional piece of luggage on your return flight. Use it for clothing, laundry, shoes, non-breakable items, and transport fragile gifts home in the more protective suitcase.

Get The Most Out Of Google Maps While Traveling
Since first being introduced in 2005, Google Maps has grown to become the most popular navigation software in the world. Active daily users now total well over one billion - and more than likely, you're one of them. Google Maps is, after all, an extremely valuable and versatile tool for every type of traveler. But with Google steadily releasing new features and updates, are you sure you're using the app to its full potential? In this week's Travel Tip Tuesday, we'll bring you up to speed on Google Maps latest functionality, and share with you a few of our favorite tips & tricks for your travels ahead.

Take Advantage Of Offline Functionality
Before heading to the airport, be sure to download an offline map of the city or place where you're traveling. Even if you have mobile data when you’re abroad, downloading a map ahead of time will use less data and/or load the map quicker when you’re out and about, so it’s a smart move either way.

Pre-Load Directions
Google Maps can still help you get where you're going even if you're offline and unable to use a downloaded map. In your accommodation (or wherever you have a wifi connection), simply program the route to reach your destination and Maps will download the info you need to get there. Once your route is configured, Maps will hold the data (even if you go offline) at least until you arrive, or until the Maps app is closed on your device.

Find Places Along Your Route
Google Maps is great for getting from point A to point B, but what about those times when you need to find food or gas along the way? Now the app will help you do just that without having to leave navigation mode. Just click the little magnifying glass and get a list of options such as gas stations, supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops, and anything else you might need.
Tap "Explore" in the main menu of the Google Maps app to see a variety of sections each with ratings and descriptions.

The Little Person In The Corner Has A Purpose
That little yellow person in the bottom right-hand corner (named "Peg Man") can be picked up and placed anywhere on the map. Right after dropping him, you'll shift into that location's street view and you can pan around as if you were there.

Make Use Of The “My Maps” Feature
Create a custom Google map using the My Maps feature, and plot all of the places you might like to visit based on your research in the run up to your trip. Then while you're wandering around wondering where might be a good place within walking distance to grab dinner, you’ve got a phone full of your very own top choices.

My Maps are shareable if the creator makes them public. You can add your own favorite spots and discoveries throughout your trip and share with friends once you return. This is particularly helpful if you’re the type of person who is constantly being asked for travel recommendations - simply send them a link and vice versa.

Peace Of Mind During Your Travels
www.ResortBrat.com
In this week's Travel Tip Tuesday, we are sharing key steps to take prior to your next getaway that will ensure your home remains safe and sound as you see the world. These simple, yet effective, preventative measures will keep you worry free over potential problems such as power surges or broken water pipes back home. Focus your time on building life-long memories.

Consider Hiring a House or Pet Sitter
The best way to make sure your house is safe while you're gone is to have someone you trust living in it. Invite a relative or close friend to temporarily move in and water plants, feed pets, and pick up newspapers off the driveway. House sitting and pet sitting services are available for purchase if needed.

Hold Your Mail & Stop Newspaper Delivery
If your trip will extend beyond a couple of days, call your local post office to request a hold on mail delivery until you are back home. The USPS will hold your mail from three to 30 days, and will do so free of charge. Avoid having a pile of yellowing newspapers out front signaling an empty house by stopping deliveries while you're out of town.

Make Your Home Look Lived In
An occupied home will exhibit obvious signs of being lived in, such as lights being turned on and off, and cars coming and going. While you're away, however, the signs of life come to an abrupt stop. Create the illusion of an occupied home by investing in timers that turn on the interior lights for a few hours every evening. Have someone take out your garbage and bring back the cans after garbage pickup. Such actions will avoid anyone taking notice that the house is empty.

Don't Announce Your Plans
As excited as you may be for your upcoming vacation, be careful about the people with whom you discuss it. Announcing your travel plans on blogs, social media, or anything public facing is something that is best avoided. The less information you put out there, the less likely it is to reach the wrong ears and eyes. Wait until you return home to post and share photos of your adventure.

Pull The Plug On Electronics
Disconnecting the power to electronics such as computers, coffee pots, and televisions will both save you money and eliminate worry about anything that may have unintentionally been left on. Turning off your garage door is also an effective way of keeping out any potential thieves carrying a universal remote. Switch off any GPS unit(s) in your car when using long-term parking at the airport, as it would otherwise alert thieves of your absence and give them a convenient map to your house.

Take extra precautions, lock up, then leave your worries behind. Don't let the anticipation of a well-deserved vacation blind you to the risks of leaving your home unprotected. Enjoy every moment of your trip.

Best Practices to Booking Hotels!
ResortBrat.com offers No Strings Quotes in my promotions section
October is the month to start talking about your winter vacation.

Resort Brat Members are Granted access to unlimited savings on thousands of hotel rooms. Follow these tips to ensure you and your companions can save even more money and enjoy a delightful getaway.

Look into Business Hotels
Hotels that cater mostly to the traveling business individual can often be slower during the weekends and summer months, which can lead to lower prices.

Visit at Less Popular Times
Research your destination’s peak seasons and days. Summer in the Caribbean, winter in Europe, weekends near convention areas, and weekdays in resort areas are considered peak traffic times. It’s simple demand and supply economics. Avoiding these will save you money and a potential headache.

Tell the Hotel of Any Issues
Issues like noisy neighbors or a messy room can ruin your hotel experience. If this happens, speak up. This could upgrade you for the rest of your stay or drink vouchers for the bar.

Double Dip Reward Points
Most credit cards offer travelers everything from cash back to bonus points or miles. Booking your next hotel stay with one of these type of credit cards will give you the most bang for your buck.

Travel With Children Like a Pro!
Pulling off a great family vacation requires a lot of planning, patience and effort. You'll get better at all this, the more you travel. Here are the top tips for having a great time while traveling with children.

Give Them a Camera
Giving a child their own (robust, child-friendly) camera encourages them to observe their surroundings and focus on what interests them. You might be surprised at the results from their knee-high view.

Digital Toy Box
Thanks to child-friendly apps, there’s no need to cram a toy box into your hand luggage when travelling by plane. By all means take a book and a magic scribbler, but the most compact form of entertainment is a device loaded with apps and games.

Invest in a Child Locator
Children aren’t fans of reins, backpacks with a leash. Keep tabs on them anywhere with a child locator. The child wears a small "electronic device" (strapped to a belt or shoe) and you keep the transmitter. If you lose your child, set off the alarm and follow the sound to find them.

Book Ahead
Trying to retain the spontaneity of travel before having children doesn’t pay off. If you arrive at your destination to find you can’t get a room and have to hit the road again with tired, hungry children melting down in the backseat.
