We found this vacant building just outside of Barnsville, GA, the Lamar County seat. Population: a little less than 6,800. Founded in 1826 and the town was named for Gideon Barnes, proprietor of a local tavern.
In 1920, Barnesville became the seat of the newly formed Lamar County.

The town served as a major hospital site for wounded southern troops during the Civil War. Local families took wounded soldiers into their homes and treated them, with unusually high successful recovery rates. Major General William B. Bate, whom was wounded in Atlanta at Utoy Creek on in 1864, was treated in Barnsville. Bate became the governor of Tennessee and served in the United States Senate. Bate said his recovery was largely the result of the kindness of the locals in Barnesville.

Historic Aviation Navigation Arrow on Shinobe Kibe Trail in St. George, Utah

Took the "Hike from Halloween" trail up to an old historic aviation arrow today. Looked good...on paper. Only .75 miles out. It didn't say it was STRAIGHT UP. Top of the world! Crazy cool.

ORIGINAL SITE OF F.A.M.E. RECORDING STUDIO

This is the site of the pioneering music company of FLORENCE ALABAMA MUSIC ENTERPRISES (F.A.M.E.), a name which became renowned worldwide as the home of "the Muscle Shoals Sound".
FAME was founded in the early 1960's by three young local entrepreneurs (Rick Hall, Billy Sherrill and Tom Stafford) who improvised a makeshift studio in a vacant room above the City Drug Store that once stood here. FAME'S earliest recording sessions launched the careers of such music business legends as Arthur Alexander, Rick Hall, Billy Sherrell, Norbert Putnan, David Briggs, Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham, and numerous others. The partnership soon dissolved and Hall took the publishing company, the FAME name in return for the studio equipment and relocated the studio to an empty to***co warehouse in Muscle Shoals.
Hal's next recording of "You Better Move On" by Arthur Alexander was acclaimed as the Shoals first world wide best seller. Over the next several decades FAME recording studios became one of the most successful producers of rhythm and blues, pop and country music in the world.
Rick Hall, whom passed January 2, 2018,
became known as the "Father of the Muscle Shoals Sound".
Remarkable history.

The Red Oak Creek Covered Bridge on
Covered Bridge Rd in Woodbury, GA

This bridge was built in the 1840s by freed slave and noted bridge builder Horace King (1807-1885). Constructed on the Town lattice design, the bridge's web of planks crisscrossing at 45- to 60-degree angles are fastened at each intersection with a total of approximately 2,500 wooden pegs, or trunnels. Although King is credited with the construction of many covered bridges throughout west Georgia, this is his only surviving bridge of this design. At 391 feet, including the approaches, this structure is the oldest and longest wooden covered bridge in Georgia.
