Yesterday was the biggest swell on Maui in 25 years!!!

The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational surf event is on at Waimea Bay!!! (Oahu) This is just the 11th time in 40 years. Conditions have to be just right. Waves are 40-50 feet today!!!

Surfers and sponsors from all over the world are on standby every winter to travel immediately when it’s held. You can see the waves travel MILES across the ocean before they break at Waimea Bay. Sets can be 30 minutes apart.

Hawaii is the birthplace of surfing. There’s few places better to experience it.

December desktop calendar: This view from The Masters at Kaanapali Hillside combines many of Maui's unique silhouettes in one image. Cook pine trees feel like the holidays, emerald fairways unfurl down the hillside, and the clouds pile up along the top of Molokai like the fluffy white trim of Santa's hat.

The hues of a Maui sunset and how the light casts itself across this gorgeous island are unique each evening. I never want to take them for granted. I feel blessed to have spent another day and count down the days of another year in paradise.
