Last summer, I worked on a film with a long time friend and we have just put the finishing touches on it to send to festivals. It will be making its premiere at the Lake Charles Film and Music Festival this fall. The following is a trailer for the film, entitled Wednesday

Woke up in a start from a photographers worst nightmare. I dreamt that I was showing up at a wedding as the photographer with only part of my kit and no prior knowledge of said wedding. Yeah. Where does this stuff come from?!?

I have spent the past 5 months sorting through footage from the past 3 years. Some of it is about to get shared here...

New endeavor today. I shot my first real estate photos in over 3 years. The only other time I shot real estate was for my own house when we sold it to move to Thailand. So if you are looking to sell your house and need photos, please let me know. I am also doing videos for those who would like that as well. Check out the shots on my page. It was an empty house, so that's not quite as fun to shoot as a house that is full of nice furniture and decorations. But those looking at the photos will get a good idea of what is there. I am also providing 360 photos, so that's an added feature that not every photographer is offering.

I have lived in Thailand with my family for over two years now. I have attempted cycling on and off again. Now I’m back on and feel better than ever. You see so many more beautiful things when you ride a bicycle. There are several mountains around us and my fat self tried the smallest not long after I got my bike. Ummmm. Nope. Shut me down on the first climb. Kept riding, tried again a while later. Made it further but gassed me completely.

Today was a different day and I set my mind to finish. People who are in shape do this tiny mountain as a warm up. To me, it was formidable. But I was determined not to quit. I stopped a few times to catch my breath but I wasn’t going to quit. Until I fell over that is. Embarrassed, bleeding and starting to feel light headed, I sat down and took the picture of my bleeding leg, conceding that the mountain had won again. But then that voice inside said “how much farther can it be? Get your fat butt up that mountain!”

So I did. I arrive at the top and had quite a few looks from concerned Thai people regarding my bleeding leg. I told them it was ok and didn’t hurt and they smiled and moved on. I did it. One of my goals i set to accomplish a long time ago is complete. Next goal is to finish without stopping. Then on to bigger mountains.

When I came back down, I had a renewed energy and rode a few more miles. I stopped at a roadside stand to get a few bananas to eat and the owner, Boontha, GAVE them to me. They were split and yellow, unable to sell, and he had them back in his house to eat. We sat and had a wonderful conversation all in Thai. It’s a good day.

Forget that last post. This little mountain ain’t gonna win!

Doi Kham. You win again, but I chipped a little more away this time. I will beat you!!

There is something about the open road on a motorcycle. Even though this little bike is only 290cc’s, it has carried me and my gear to some beautiful places. Now that rainy season is over, it is a little more enjoyable to get out and ride.

Today I spent part of the afternoon interviewing Ajarn Daam. He is a master at Sak Yant. He has blended the Lanna language and style with the ancient practice of these magical tattoos. I learned a lot and he was very open in sharing about his beliefs with me. Friday I hope to wrap shooting on this project that I have been shooting for nearly a month already.

Headed out to film the next part of the short piece I am working on. You saw the last photo with the Muay Thai fighter... today I am visiting and interviewing a master in the art of Sak Yant. No, that isn’t a martial art, it is a type of tattoo that is quite famous in SEAsia. True believers tell stories of the power and protection these tattoos provide.
I have learned quite a bit about my new home and the culture through this story. Not everyone here believes in the power of Sak Yant, but it is still a window into the cultural and spiritual worldview here. Stick around, you might learn something too!

As a person who loves photography and pushing the limits of reality with photoshop, this story gives me so much to think about. I love this story on so many levels. I respect how this woman has to daily live with her reality and isn't living in the fantasy world the photographers created. I love how people went to the next level to give her a taste of what she was once able to do. What do you guys think?

I have been learning a lot these past couple years in Thailand. I have met and worked with some amazing talent. One such friend is Tod Polson, a fantastic animator. He challenges me to try new things and just keep creating. I have created a couple animated pieces and really enjoy the laborious process. Recently, I have been asked to facilitate a fun, one hour, hands-on animation play session. So to keep it simple, I went with a stop-motion app on my iPhone. This is a 7 second example of what you can shoot on an iPhone!

Getting my organization on! Have you ever walked into a room and wondered how it got so messy? That was the feeling looking at all my digital files. Thousands and thousands of photos and videos and they are a complete mess. Tons of material yet to edit and share! Well, spring cleaning has kicked in and organization is underway. In the process I am finding little gems that I never shared. So get ready.
A good friend here asked me why I never share my drone shots. Well, they too are getting their own drive and fabulous organization. I feel so light and free. Hahaha.

Whew... What an amazing couple of months! Johannesburg, Tokyo, Philippines, Kho Phi Phi, China, Taiwan... I have never had such an opportunity to travel so much. I did such a bad job of posting up pics or videos. I hope to fix that though. I have had a chance to catch my breathe and look through my shots. I will start putting some of them up. Lots to share. Here is a shot from the subway in Tokyo. People there are as enamored with their phones as anywhere else I have been.

Prepping for what I hope is an amazing 7 day journey with my older son, Andrew. We have lived in Thailand for nearly 2 years now and have yet to explore the area around Phuket and Krabi. Next week, that changes. Although the trip is not about taking photos and making videos, you can bet that both will happen. We are going to make some amazing memories I hope and you will get to see some of them.

It's back!!!! The 360 camera I forgot in the Philippines has been returned to me. It took several people to return this camera to me and for them, I am grateful.

How many times does a guy have to change the name of his page? Well, one more it seems. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to participate in many media outlets. My recent move to Thailand only expands that blessing. A few years ago, I struggled with how to share what I produce. I like photography, travel, videography, film production and editing. What name captures that? For a while, I claimed the title B-Wing Productions. That was a nod to where I first started participating in making crazy short films, living on the B-Wing of Prudhomme Hall at Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts. Many people thought it was because I was a Star Wars fan... that may have played into it as well. No one balked when I swiped that name. But over the past couple of years, I have gravitated to trying to simplify. I called it JMEbeyer Studios for a while... but I don't have a studio... not really. SO... The Homesick Nomad has been a name I have enjoyed publishing things under. It is a name that actually has some "brand ability" even. For now, I am consolidating EVERYTHING under that and my actual name. Photography, video, the works. I appreciate those of you who have tried to keep up on this confusing ride. Basically, there will be a better level of continuity with this change. The blog is undergoing a makeover as well.

IF I get back to metal detecting... which I hope to someday. The videos that will surely follow will still be under Discovered Under Ground (D.U.G.). Probably just keep that separate from this.
