Day 2 Highlights in Yarra Valley, Australia

The day was a delightful exploration of Healesville’s culinary and beverage scene, featuring:

- Wine Tasting:,Visited Giant Steps Wine Tasting Room, renowned for their exceptional cool-climate wines, particularly their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

- Local Exploration: Wandered downtown Healesville, stopping at Barrique Wine Store and meeting owner & wine expert Mike

- Gin Adventures:
- Enjoyed a tasting at Hermetica Distillery, experiencing their botanically-balanced gin crafted in the picturesque Yarra Valley.
- Explored Four Pillars Gin, sampling their extensive Australian gin collection

- Unique Winery Experience: Discovered Jayden Ong Wines, an off-the-beaten-path winery offering intimate tastings with BBQ meat pairings

- 🦘 Spotting: Spotted over 20 kangaroos at RACV Healesville during twilight.

The Yarra Valley proved to be a must-visit destination for wine and gin enthusiasts, just a short 45-minute drive from Melbourne.

As a food writer, I've always believed that nourishment is a fundamental right, not a luxury. In times of crisis, a warm meal can provide more than just sustenance—it offers comfort, hope, and a sense of normalcy. That's why I'm reaching out to you today to support World Central Kitchen (WCK) in their efforts to aid those affected by the devastating January 2025 Los Angeles fires.

WCK has once again mobilized with incredible speed and efficiency, providing thousands of meals to evacuees and first responders across Los Angeles County.. Their ability to respond swiftly to disasters never ceases to amaze me. In 2017, I had the privilege of volunteering with WCK during the Tubbs Fire, and I witnessed firsthand their remarkable organizational skills and unwavering commitment to feeding those in need.

Today, WCK is on the ground in Southern California, working tirelessly to ensure that no one goes hungry during this crisis[9]. They've partnered with local restaurants and food trucks to distribute hot meals at multiple locations, from Santa Monica to Altadena.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps provide a meal to someone facing unimaginable hardship. Let's come together and show that in times of crisis, food is more than just fuel—it's a lifeline.

I once again had the pleasure of attending the annual Project Zin event this year, hosted by Chef Charlie Palmer's Dry Creek Kitchen and Vintner Clay Mauritson. This remarkable event brings together wine enthusiasts and food lovers to raise funds for a meaningful cause. All proceeds from Project Zin benefit the Down Syndrome Connection Bay Area, in honor of Clay’s son, Brady, who has Down syndrome.

Those visiting the Pacific Northwest, there has been a new addition to the hotel list. Shore Lodge - McCall, Idaho is a lovely hotel that is worth visiting. I recently went for Labor Day and fell in love with this stunning lake front town as well as the luxury hotel.
