There aren't many cooler houses than this one in central Austin. The Austin Zilker Escape features 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths, a backyard oasis with a private pool, private hot tub, and a beautifully finished interior that provides classic Austin charm and comfort, all within walking distance of so much that makes Austin special.
The weather in Austin changes quickly and this spot is ready for it all. Is it hot? Probably, then spend your day in the comfort of the pool and double chaise lounges for soaking up the sun. Maybe grill some meat while you’re at it. Is it cold? Sometimes, so relax in the hot tub with your favorite beverage/person/both. Is it raining? It does, but you can enjoy the water sounds and morning coffee from the covered patio in this quiet pocket of the neighborhood. So, go explore Austin and know this is waiting for you when you return.
Once inside, you will find the living area features a sectional sofa and lounge chair for relaxing in comfort, and a large flatscreen TV with digital antenna for HDTV reception of local/major networks, as well as a BlueRay DVD player and Roku box for signing into your own streaming accounts. The house is equipped with high-speed, protected internet via Google Fiber.
There's a half-bath off the living area and a separate dining/sitting room with view of the pool.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'd need to cook up a feast. Coffee and condiments are provided as well as most spices and oils. There is also an attached laundry room with full-sized washer and dryer, detergent, and iron with board, so you can pack light and not drag luggage through the airport.
Just to the left of the living room is the master bedroom which features a very comfortable king bed, ceiling fan, noise machine, and private main bathroom access. The second bedroom features a queen bed, ceiling fan, noise machine, a desk with a view of the backyard, and direct access to the covered patio. The third bedroom has a queen bed, desk, backyard view, and private access to the main bathroom.
The main bathroom has a full tub and shower combination and two separate sink areas to make sharing easier. It can be accessed by the master bedroom and 3rd bedroom.
And don’t forget the front porch swing, it’s a great spot for coffee or waiting on the Uber driver...
The Neighborhood!
One of the other great attractions of my home is the location, which is a quiet, residential neighborhood but still just steps away from the recently renovated Lamar Union area featuring the Alamo Drafthouse Theater, Highball Lounge, Mandala Kitchen & Bar, TLC Austin, Medici Coffee, Lick Ice Cream, Juice Society, Soto South Lamar, Shake Shack, Jose Luis Salon, Seva Yoga, and Kalologie 360 Spa.
It's easy walking distance to quite a number of restaurants/bars/shops, in order of increasing distance they are: The Gibson, Maudie's, Odd Duck, Uchi, Eberly, Barlata, Uncle Billy's, Austin Java, Juliet, Shady Grove, Juiceland, SquareRut Kava Bar, House Wine, Picnic Food Trailer Park, Chuy's, Flour and Vine, Black Sheep Lodge, Olivia, Barley Swine, Henri's, El Meson, Opa, and Austin Beer Garden Brewing (ABGB) to name a few. It's also a short 5-minute walk to Austin's iconic Saxon Pub, as well as the latest up-and-coming music club in S. Austin, One-2-One.
Other popular attractions in walking distance are Barton Springs Pool, Zilker Park (where ACL is held) with Hillside Theater, Boat/Canoe Rentals, Disc Golf, and Botanical Gardens, Barton Springs Bike Rentals and Tours, Thom’s Market, Barton Creek Greenbelt Trail, Lady Bird Lake and Trails, Art & Vinyl, Bicycle Sport Shop, Peter Pan Mini Golf, Butler Park Pitch & Putt, Palmer Events Center, and Zach Theatre. Take the pedestrian bridge across Lady Bird Lake to easily reach Downtown West. In this area, you will find a plethora of restaurants/bars, upscale shopping, salons, fitness choices, the groovy new Austin Public Library, Whole Foods flagship store, and Trader Joe’s.
In easy biking distance are the S. Lamar, S. First, and S. Congress, 2nd Street, and Rainey Street entertainment districts with so much to offer that listing it here would take pages.
Guest Access
Guests will have complete and private access to the entire house, pool & hot tub, backyard area including gas grill, and driveway parking for several cars.
Interaction With Guests
Typically there isn't a lot of guest interaction, we have self-check-in via coded door locks. However, we live in the neighborhood and are available should you need anything at all.
Getting Around
Cars/Rideshares: Even if you rent a car, parking in popular areas of the city can be hard to find, so you may want to use a rideshare service, especially if you will be imbibing. Uber and Lyft left town for awhile, but they are back, and in their absence popped up some great alternatives that don’t have surge pricing: Ride Austin, Fasten and Fare. We also have Car2Go which is a small car you can rent by the drive with dedicated parking downtown. I can’t recommend you try calling for a cab unless it’s late night. They are very unreliable for getting to the airport, which is why rideshare companies are killing it in Austin.
Bikes: Austin has great dedicated bike trails and paths, and bike lanes on roads. You can traverse the entire city on a bike. But, vehicle traffic can be bad, so try to stick to the paths and trails if possible. There is a bike rental shop a short walk away on Barton Springs Road next to Zilker park.
Walking: Usually a great option in Austin since there are lots of pedestrian designated areas including the nearby paths in Zilker Park, Lady Bird Lake, and walking bridge that drops you directly into Downtown West.
Buses: Austin’s bus system is Capital Metro and they have stops all through town. You can look-up the routes via their website. It’s not the fastest way to get around but handy if you are out when it’s rainy or hot and you need an option B for short trips.
