Regatta Bay is one of my favorite courses to play during our Destin vacations. Architect Robert Walker designed this gem of a course in northwest Florida that’s worth checking out. ⛳️
What’s great about courses like Regatta Bay is that you can play the course year round. Winters are generally mild so October to March can be a nice time to play. While the summer months can get hot, this course is still fun to play. ☀️
Have you played Regatta Bay? When is your favorite time of the year to play golf in Florida?

One of my favorite things to do on our summer vacations in Florida is to play. With a boatload of courses to play, it’s nearly impossible to get board with the variety of golf courses. ⛳️
Kelly Plantation is the top of my list of golf courses to play in the Destin area. The course is in a convenient location, the customer service is top notch, and the course is fun to play. 👌🏻
What golf courses in Florida are at the top of your list? Which courses do you recommend playing?

he Birmingham area is underrated when it comes to restaurants. Unless you’ve lived there, it’s likely the city’s food scene is one you’ve overlooked. Birmingham’s golf scene is also underrated. With courses like The Country Club of Birmingham. If you get a chance to play there, do it! 💯
Other courses in the area that are fun to play include Old Overton Club, Vestavia Country Club, and FarmLinks Golf Club. I’ve never played Shoal Creek, but the course is generally considered the best on the state of Alabama. ⛳️

@redskygolfclub is one of the most picturesque courses you’ll find in the US. Designed by Greg Norman in 2003, the Red Sky Norman course offers stunning views from nearly every hole. 💯
The first tee overlooks most of the Norman course. Nestled in the Rockies, this is truly a mountain course. What’s great about Red Sky is that have not one but two mountain courses to play. The other course designed by Tom Fazio. All in all, you can’t beat playing the courses during a Colorado golf trip. 🏔
What do you think about Red Sky Golf Club? What’s your favorite course in Colorado?
Large population cities like Houston can have hidden gem courses if you know where to look. Case in point Sharpstown Park Golf Course in southwest Houston. 💎
What makes this course enjoyable is it’s combination of its design, price, and customer service. Other courses in the city like Memorial Park and Gus Wortham rank high for me as well. 💯

It’s hard to find a hole at Mossy Oak Golf Club that you won’t like. Architect Gil Hanse made this course one to love with the way it’s designed. It’s simply fun to play all the time! 👌🏻
After playing Mossy Oak Golf Club a few times, it’s a course I recommend for those wanting a taste of Mississippi golf. You can all hop across the street and play another gem of a course in Old Waverly Club. Pair these two courses with courses in the southern part of the state like Fallen Oak, and you have one hell of a golf trip. ⛳️

There’s a lot to love about Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Golf, a spa, tennis, biking, and on property dining ensure everything you need is at your finger tips. 🎾
Golf is clearly at the forefront of activities to partake in onsite. With five courses, there’s a a fun course that’s yours for the taking. Overall, this many golf courses plus enough restaurants to feed a small army, Kiawah Island Golf Resort makes me want to return soon. 💯

Mississippi is loaded with top notch public golf courses like Old Waverly Golf Club. This par 72, 7,000 yard course is ideal to play anytime of year. That includes playing solo or in a big group. ☀️
One of the things I appreciate about Old Waverly is number 18. Water flanks the entire left side of the hole making you think about the water on every shot. Keep the ball in play off the tee and you’re rewarded with a chance at birdie. If you’re looking fun golf in the south, give this course a look. ⛳️

Opened in 1995, course architect Earl Stone's 27-hole course in Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club is a fun one to play. Located on 820 acres, with portions overlooking the Bon Secour Wildlife Preserve, the Peninsula shines in the springtime. 🏌🏼♂️
The course boasts love oaks and cypress trees throughout the routing, and features some 30 lakes, which are easy to find speaking from personal experience. Overall, the course is one to check out if you’re in the Gulf Shores area. 😉

Regatta Bay Golf & Yacht Club is a par 72, nearly 6,800-yard course that sits alongside the Choctawhatchee Bay. Robert C. Walker, former lead architect for Arnold Palmer, was the vision behind the design they brings lakes and streams into play.
Number 18 is a fun closing hole requiring a carry over fairway bunkers to give you an opportunity to go for the green in two. If you manage to carry the bunkers, you’re faced with one of the more scary shots in golf - an overwater shot into a par 5 with no bailout. It’s a challenging hole that works out great if you drive the ball well.

Florida is loaded with fun golf courses that include Kelly Plantation Golf Club. What makes the 7,000+ yard Kelly Plantation course unique in that there are a couple of spectacular views of Choctawhatchee Bay.
Designed by Fred Couples and Gene Bates, Kelly Plantation is an 18-hole course that challenges golfers of all handicaps. Next time you’re in the Destin area, check out this course and let me know what you think.

Originally designed by Donald Ross in the 1920s, the Country Club of Birmingham’s West Course is one of two Donald Ross designs at the club. The West course was renovated in 2009 by Pete Dye giving it a blend of the old and the new. ✍️
The par 8th tests the eye. Bunkers guard the green and the hole depth makes you think you have less room than you do going long. It’s a fun hole that allows you to make birdie if you can keep it below the hole. Overall, this hole and many others are why it’s an enjoyable track to take on. 👍🏻

Houston has some incredible municipal golf courses. One of these courses is Sharpstown in the southwestern part of the city. Not only is it affordable but the customer service is friendly and course is generally in fantastic shape! 🏌🏼♂️
Something I appreciate about Sharpstown is the course routing. That includes holes like number 13 here in this video. It’s a slight right left par four dogleg with water in play off the tee to the left and a tree smack in the middle of the fairway. All in all, the course is filled with holes similar to this one making it fun to play. 🤩

A minimalist design is what you get with Mossy Oak Golf Club. Set in the Mississippi Black Prairie, this 7,200-yard par 72 course designed by Gil Ganse is a true gem in terms of southeast golf courses. 🏌🏼♂️
One of the many unique aspects of this course are the 360 degree views. As you’re walking the course, you can appreciate the elevation changes, native oak trees, and native grasses located throughout the course. Overall, this course is one I highly recommend playing. 🌳

With five golf courses and views of the Atlantic just outside of Charleston, South Carolina, Kiawah Resort is one of a kind. For those of you needing a golf getaway, look no further than this resort.
The Pete Dye designed Ocean Course steals the show, as it should. However, the resort has four additional courses in Osprey Point designed by Tom Fazio, Oak Point designed by Clyde Johnston, Turtle Point designed by Jack Nicklaus, and Cougar Point designed by Gary Player. As you can see, Kiawah is loaded with courses designed by some of the golf greats.

North Mississippi has two gems in terms of golf courses. One of the courses is Mossy Oak Golf Club. It’s simply fantastic! The other is Old Waverly Golf Club. Designed by Jerry Pate and Bob Cupp, Old Waverly is an 18-hole course built in 1988 that makes you want to back out and play as soon as you finish.
What makes Old Waverly interesting is its contrast to Mossy Oak. The courses are nearly across the atreeet from one another and are worlds apart. Old Waverly is tight and winding. Mossy Oak is wide open. So, if you play Old Waverly, head across the street and play Mossy Oak right after.

The Meadows is one of the course options you have when you make it to The Greenbrier. Originally designed by Alexander H. Findlay, the course opened for play in 1911. Shortly thereafter, one of golfs greatest course designers took the reigns and hosted this course while redesigning The Old White Course.
Both The Meadows and The Old White are gems. If the course was easier to get to, I’d recommend it more often. However, if want a venue for a golf trip, The Greenbrier has you covered.

Tipping out at just under 6,400 yards, architects Baxter Spann and Derrell Witt designed Gus Wortham Park Golf Course in Houston in 1908. Old courses are always fun to play and this course is no exception.
At 390 yards, number seven doesn’t seem like a hard par four. However, it’s a tight driving hole with hazards to the left, to the right, and center. From the fairway, your approach shot is over a creek into an elevated green. The courses is littered with holes like this where a lot of thought was put into the design.
