The Kandy Esala Perahera, also known as the Festival of the Tooth, is a grand procession held annually in July and August in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This historic event celebrates and pays homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha, which is enshrined at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.

Ella is a small town in the Badulla District of Uva Province, Sri Lanka governed by an Urban Council. It is approximately 200 kilometres east of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 1,041 metres above sea level. The area has a rich bio-diversity, dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna.

What is Pekoe Trail?
The Pekoe Trail is a 300 km (186.4 mile) trekking route from the Hanthana Mountains near Kandy to the hill station of Nuwara Eliya.On the way, you’ll pass through the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka across a variety of landscapes
The route takes its name from the numerous tea estates it passes through, their undulating hills carpeted in emerald-coloured tea plants (‘pekoe’ refers to high quality black tea grown in Sri Lanka).
The trail is the brainchild of adventurer and trail extraordinaire Miguel Cunat, who spent many years hiking in the central highlands of Sri Lanka designing The Pekoe Trail. Migel Cunat is Spanish by birth and he has been living in Sri Lanka since 2003. He has contributed immensely to the development of tourism of the country. He was awarded Conde Nast top traveler specialist for Sri Lanka.
The 300 km trail has been sectioned into 22 stages, each averaging about 12 km ( 7.46 mi) and of varying levels of difficulty based on the elevation gain.

Horton Plains National Park is a protected region in the central province of the country. It is rich in bio diversity including many plants which are endemic not only to Sri Lanka but to the plains itself. The plains are the source of three major rivers in Sri Lanka, namely Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe. The Sri Lankan sambar deer is a typically featured mammal in this region along with many species of birds endemic to the Horton Plains. Popular tourist attractions of the area are Great World’s End Drop and Baker’s Falls waterfall. The region was given the status of a national park in 1988.

Wasgamuwa National Park is a natural park in Sri Lanka situated in the Matale and Polonnaruwa Districts. It was declared to protect and to make a refuge for the displaced wild animals during the Mahaweli Development Project in 1984 and is one of the four National Parks designated under the Project.
Peradeniya Botanical Garden - Sri lanka 🇱🇰
The Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya was established in 1821, six years after the final occupation of the Kandyan Kingdom by the English. The site is less than 5.5 Km from Kandy on the Colombo Road, and occupies a loop of the river Mahaweli, which surrounds it on all sides except the south, where it is bounded by the main road. The area 61.25 ha in extent, is about 1550ft from sea level. More than 4000 species of plants including woody trees, Palms, Ferns, Orchids and shrubs currently present within the gardens.

Narangala is a picturesque and magnificent mountain situated in the Badulla district of Uva province. The beautiful Narangala Mountain rises up to about 1527 meters and is the second highest mountain in the Uva province. The mountain is special in two ways. First is that it has two parts of one which is a rectangular shaped plateau and the other one being a triangular shaped peak. The other specialty is the location of the Narangala Mountain. It is located at the edge of Uva while pointing out towards a gap formed between the valleys of Uma oya, Badulu oya and Loggal oya. This gap opens up a wide view towards the Mahaweli flood plains which extends up to Trincomalee.

Saptha Kanya is a mountain range in Maskeliya, Sri Lanka. In Tamil it is known as Anjimalai. It is a ridge of seven peaks near the Norton Estate bordering the Sabaragamuwa Province and Central Province. The tallest peak is 1,569 m from the sea level.

An event that occurs only around 3 days per year is where the orientation of the ☀️ perfectly lines up with Adam’s peak (68km line of sight, 130km by road) as seen from Colombo.
What’s tough about this image is that you need to be in the right place at the right time. You only have a small window to capture it, and the weather needs to be forgiving.
I find it so fascinating that you can see that far out, right to the middle of the country on a clear day.
Unfortunately for me, the weather wasn’t on my side, however I did capture these a few days before that window.

Chariot path of Ravana - Pussallewa - Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
This mountain range is located in the Nuwara Eliya District, more than 2100 meters above sea level. It is also known as the 'Chariot Path' meaning the road on which Ravana's chariot traveled and the villagers call it 'Pittani'. The quest for this beautiful land begins at the Florotoft Estate in Pussellawa. This is a private estate. There are a few difficult trails to go the footpath runs through a mountainous forest.
In the history of the kings of Ravana, he took Goddess Sita from the capital city of Lankapura to a place called Asoka Vitaka and during this time he drove his vehicle through this place and it is said that this place was created. Rawana's cart road is beautifully painted on the grass.
There is a small pond at the end of the plain. This pond is called Sita Pond. Legend has it that this pond was made of Sita's tears. The villagers also say that this pond does not dry up during any drought.

Alagalla mountain- Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 . Alagalla Mountain Range, also known as “Potato Mountain Range” and translates to “Tuber Rock” in English, is situated at the border of the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces. It is situated in Mawanella. The mountain has been used as a defense location against the Portugese, Dutch and English who tried to surrender Kandy. This mountain range is surrounded by Uthuwankanda, Bathalegala which is also known as Bible Rock, Ambuluwawa, Devanagala, Knuckles Mountain Range and Hanthana Mountain Range. The mountain doesn’t attract much of a crowd although it is great for hiking.
