Excursions By Kate Traveling in Southeast Asia, through Europe, across the desert, through the woods and into the water. No question is taboo and thoughts, suggestions welcome!

Travel tips, planning, going solo and real life stories from the road. Travel tips, advice and real live stories from all over the world. After receiving several messages and questions about traveling and how I manage to go it alone, I thought it would be best to post travel stories, travel tips and some real life stories (with photos) on a separate page while I am working on my website.

NYC Street Photography

Playing around with my new Leica Monochrome. Digital for sure but the grain quality really does look like film. It's quite amazing!

The Motorbikes of Vietnam

There are over 1 million of them alone in HCM City. I remember being told to cross the street with caution, and with good reason. NYC traffic can prepare you but still, its a mind crazy experience to cross the street!

It was fun to play "froggy". I only wished I had a motorbike myself :)

Ah, The Big Apple. Fun, Exciting and the City that Never Sleeps!

Best way to get around is the NYC Subway. Here are some very true tips on the subway culture in NYC. Funny and true!

Think of the subway as going to a party at a stranger's studio apartment at 7am, with 800 people who all hate each other. Glove and Boots' Johnny T is back with advice for 5 million plus riders who take the NYC subway every day.

UNESCO Sites and the Ruins of the World

One of my favorite things to photograph are ancient ruins from around the world. I was lucky enough to visit this majestic place back in 2003. It was on my first digital camera, a Sony Cybershot that had a max megapixel count that I don't think exists in digital photography today. Funny how technology changes!

Any guesses on where this photo was taken? Hint? Not Europe!

I've taken a hiatus from taking photos for a few months. Work and school have dominated my time that I feel I have forgotten the art of photography. The only reinforcement to start again is looking at my old photographs and hoping the knowledge and skill is in my head somewhere! Best remedy? Take my camera out again and perhaps do some street photography in New York City this weekend.

Reminiscing, I found this particular photograph I took in 2003 that recaptured my eye. Why do I love this photograph? Because there is a story behind it.

There was a massive parade while I was living in Urubamba, Peru many years ago. I was taking photographs in the street and the wonderful kids during the parade were, in fact, 'parading' in front of the camera to the detriment of the teachers. This one particular teacher didn't like the fact I was photographing the students in the street, even though I was trying to be inconspicuous. I left the area and thought I would be 'smart' to take photos from a balcony instead. That same teacher was in the crowd, following my line of sight, my camera lens, almost reprimanding me from afar while I was shooting from many yards away up on a balcony of a local restaurant. Hence, I STILL got that evil eye!

Its always the story behind the photo that captivates you :)

Happy shooting!
