Kruger National Park: Our Unforgettable Journey So Far

Over the past two and a half days, we have immersed ourselves in the unparalleled beauty of the Kruger National Park, and it has been nothing short of extraordinary.

From the moment we awoke each day to the time we retired at night, we were constantly surrounded by Africa's wildlife. Our wildlife sightings have surpassed all expectations.

We encountered numerous lions, from mothers with their cubs to males. We were also fortunate enough to spot leopard, hippos, and literally hundreds of elephants and giraffes.

Additionally, we were graced with sightings of zebras, impalas, nyalas, warthogs, and wildebeests. Seeing the "Big Five" in their natural habitat has left us with an overwhelming sense of joy and fulfillment.

Next, we venture to Pridelands, where we will embark on five days of fun to become mini safari rangers. The adventure continues!

Over nine thrilling days, we'll embark on safaris in Kruger National Park, searching for majestic lions, mighty elephants, elegant zebras, towering giraffes, speedy cheetahs, and quirky warthogs. We'll also team up with the Endangered Wildlife Trust to track Wild Dogs and learn how to become mini rangers with Eco Training in a private game reserve called Pridelands.

Who else packs WAY too much for their UK adventures?

As / We’ve just returned from an unforgettable week away, and no joke, I packed for every possible weather scenario – from a scorching 30 degrees to a chilly 10 degrees. Summer dresses, leggings, fleeces – you name it, I brought it. And guess what? I actually used everything!

The girls are absolutely loving their cozy fleeces from , but did you know they also have a fantastic summer range? Their pack-a-mac style coats are lifesavers, and we now keep the fleeces and coats in the car for any unexpected weather changes. Super handy!

KILIMANJARO - I DID IT!

10 days ago I left to climb the highest freestanding mountain in the world - KILIMANJARO in TANZANIA…

Today, I say proudly that I did it. I summited the mountain with 7 other strong ladies through my company Wild Hearted Adventures - Group Travel For Ladies & Families - we climbed a whopping 5,895 meters!

It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Summit day was 17 hours of hiking - I’ll tell you the whole story when I return, as now it’s time for safari!

KILIMANJARO HERE WE COME…

This is it - the night before our biggest adventure yet. We have 12 fabulous mums (including 3 twin mums) who are so ready to climb a mountain tomorrow.

Never did I believe 12 months ago when I had this daft idea to climb the highest freestanding mountain in the world would my dream come true…

Altitude will determine our summit but I have never seen so much positivity that we are all ready to give it one heck of a go!

A twin mums story of why she is climbing Kilimanjaro with me in 2 weeks time!

‘The Day I Lost My Little Boy Forever…. ‘ written by Claire Smith

6 years ago Claire, (twin mum of 4), and her little boy Harry, who was just 21 months old woke up together. They had the rest of their lives making memories together.

It was an ordinary Friday afternoon when their world changed forever.

Claire put Harry down for his afternoon nap as usual - But Harry didn’t wake up…

‘I have relived that horror every single day since you died. I’ve searched for answers, I’ve tried to replay the day to see if I could have saved you. I will always feel guilty for not knowing something was wrong or going to wake you sooner… “if only…if only.” 💔

“Time goes by, but the pain of not having you with us is timeless. It’s out forever…”

“Leaving you at that hospital broke me. It took something from me that I can never replace. I didn’t want to let you go little man… I wanted to run with you in my arms and never ever let you go. I’m sorry 😔 So so sorry…”😢

On the 18th June, this very brave lady is climbing Kilimanjaro with me to raise money for SUDC - Sudden unexplained death in childhood.

Ad/ Most of you probably know that I think Kenya is the most magical place on this planet. I’ve been visiting for over 20 years now, it never gets boring and I tell everyone that they have to go at least once in their lifetime if they can!

There are so many options for places to stay in Kenya that they really do cater to every budget. Pre-children, I often camped and stayed in guest houses, but you can also opt for four and five star lodges if you are wanting some luxury. Whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or with kids, you can do it!

In 2020 I took my family for the first time. Matilda was 2 and the twins, 4. Don’t let anyone tell you can’t take kids on safari, because you can, and they're made so welcome. A lot of lodges have family tents and some even kids club and nannies. Some will say you should wait until the kids are older, and whilst Matilda may not remember it, not only did we make some wonderful family memories, but the girls got so much out of the trip too.

They were introduced to safari which they loved and are now hooked on, they met and interacted with the wonderful Kenyan locals, the Maasai, they learnt a new language and experienced a whole new way of life. Kenya IS all about being on safari, but there’s way more to explore and immerse yourself in too!

“It’s the least stressed I’ve felt in I don’t know how long” - said two of our ladies from this weekends hiking adventures in the Peak District - it’s what we are all about. Giving you some well deserved you time!

8 amazing ladies joined me on Friday night at the for a weekend of hiking in the beautiful hills.

Some had never hiked before, some were training for Kilimanjaro, most came on their own without knowing anyone but everyone had the best time and left smiling!

This weekend we have a child free weekend to celebrate our 10th Wedding anniversary…

We had lots of ideas to celebrate… a romantic weekend in Italy, France, a spa weekend, I even suggested popping over to Kenya for a long weekend (yes he did laugh at that one but I thought it was a good idea!)…

But no, here we are in Eastbourne hiking the Seven Sisters for some Kilimanjaro training - that’s love right! 😉🥰

What a wonderful Easter weekend in the Peaks - I hope you have all had a good weekend too?!

We stayed at as they are such a great base for us! We all fit in one room and they are totally set up for families. This particular has a games room and there’s great hiking from the door.

On day one hiked the ‘Ringing Roger’ circular and day two we hiked from the YHA to ‘Mam Tor’. Both can be hiked from Edale village too.

As you all know, I am a big hiking fan and have just completed a hike with a fabulous group of women. Whilst you are out hiking it is so important to wear the right kind of shoes. This is where @keeneurope comes into play. ad/When choosing hiking boots you want something sturdy and comfortable that will provide your foot with support and protection as well as having a good grip and hopefully keeping your feet dry. The women’s Ridge Flex Waterproof boots come in two colours and offer all-terrain protection, they are also made from environmentally preferred leather and have an anti odour system and they are water repellent. Keen also offers kids boots too and it’s equally important to kit them out correctly with shoes. The Kanibou Waterproof Winter Boot comes in three colours, they are insulated, water repellent and have a great sturdy grip on the bottom, which would be perfect for the snow. The kid’s Wanuro Waterproof boots come in three colours, including a very funky turquoise. These boots are sturdy, yet lightweight and of course, importantly they are waterproof. I honestly can’t rate this brand enough!

Ad / Well, I didn’t realise how great Bury St Edmunds was for families – we had such a lovely weekend away in Bury St Edmunds and Beyond Do your kids love history? Well Bury has so much history it’s fascinating for everyone in the family, and here are three fabulous attractions that you have to check out… Family Guided Walking Tour, Abbey Gardens and St Edmunds Cathedral We can’t recommend the family walking tour enough. We all loved it. We met up with our guide dressed as ‘The Grey Lady’ who spent just over an hour sharing real life stories with us as we explored the Abbey grounds and ruins. She was fabulous with the girls, bringing everything to their level and getting them involved with the acting. The tour guides continue to the end of October and Ghost Tours from Halloween until the end of March. The medieval Moyse’s Hall Museum is housed in one of the last surviving Norman houses in Britain and is home of some of the Horrible Histories Artifacts and where some great gruesome stories are told – the older you are, the more detailed they get! The will be loved by all ages – you must book the interactive tour to bring this museum to life. You can step inside a gibbet cage (made for the museum by blacksmiths Kingdom Forge), try on a ball and chain, experience the smells of history including the tanner’s pits, handle thumbscrews and try on manacles, and pick up a Norman sword. West Stow Anglo Saxon Village We ended our weekend at West Stow Anglo Saxon Village. It has a small indoor gallery as well as a recreation of an Anglo-Saxon village which the girls found fascinating. West Stow Country Park features 125 acres of woods, heathlands, a river and a lake, plus nature trails, walks and an adventure playground for the children.
