Lorngaboli @ Army’s Drift along the Triangle/Serengeti border. Tip - always check the single tree along the lugga when you go that way, more times than not there’s some sort of cat activity around 🤩

He’s one of the resident male leopards in the Triangle and roams part of his father’s territory (guessing that the legendary Shepherd Tree male is dad given his visibility in the area years back but in the Triangle there are for sure very, very shy leopards (as it should be in the wild) that are not on the radar).

Living his best life, sweet Hunter2 (KO’d from a heavy night 💭💤 or overindulged on 🍗?!)

He’s one of the first males I have followed in the field from cub to pride male. Most lions don’t make it all the way; several reports state only 1 in 8 lion cubs reach adulthood (not specific to the Mara), making it all the more special when they do.

For Hunter2, seeing him as cub in 2017 with his fathers (the Musketeers), as an awkward teenager still hanging with the pride, as a nomad dabbling with different lionesses mostly in the Triangle, Smitty and Lower Rongai to a mature pride male along the border has been a privilege I never thought I’d witness!

He’s now 8 years old and along with his ‘bro’ Ormagiliani, a fully fledged TZ resident this year. I doubt will see him in Kenya again but I’ve learnt over the past almost decade of following the big cats of the Mara, never say never!

The 3 lionesses him, Sikio2 and Ormagiliani raised in their first pride (Purungat pride) are doing well.

Olonkera’s and co’s ancestry 😻

Probably not much out there on the maternal side of Bearface, Netira, Mama Olonkera their sister🪽 and brother🪽.

We know well that the Muskies were these lionesses’ daddies.…did you know their Paradise pride mothers?

Here we have 2 from 2017 (LHS) and 2019 (RHS)

Their family tree is filling out nicely with their grandkids and great grandkids!

Lucky Acacia boys finding a pretty vacant pride

Bearface and her trio of cubs 🥰 We’ve seen all the boys mating with her around 4+ months ago and soon they’ll all join up to hopefully raise gen 2.0 (her first 2 litters with the BRBs didn’t survive, the early 2022 litter didn’t survive past the lean season - this was the litter we saw with most of the pride eating a buff with Olchore, Lormasi and Mama Earless, unsure why her 2021 litter didn’t survive). At least 2 ‘Rongai’ (Paradise breakaway) lionesses have cubs and they are all totally pickly as expected! Throwback to Lopono and Oloborani chilling with their beef at Maternity, 3 years ago. This was a brief partnership and 6 months before Oloborani hooked up with Orkirikoi (who at the time of this video was still hanging with Doa’s son having observed them across 4 months in the Triangle as they begun their normadic life). Lopono disappeared quickly after this sighting, last being seen deep in the reserve. Lopono’s brother had already been missing for around 2 years (that pair were principally based in the Triangle and held the Egyptian Goose pride for a short stint).
