Xianjing Waterfall in Chiayi has been on my to do list for quite awhile. I was unsure of a route down and reports were that it was slightly treacherous. A friend made it down with a group after a Taiwanese hiking group posted a youtube video and I planned a trip shortly after. This is a very difficult to reach waterfall.

I have calendars for sale. More details coming tomorrow but I am shipping them within Taiwan. Contact me and we can arrange payment/shipping details.

The 2018 Taiwan’s Waterfalls calendar is finished and a bulk order will be finished next week. The calendar features 13 new photos from last year and is even better than last year’s calendar. This year’s cover photo is from a May trip to Hsinchu’s Baxian Waterfall.

If you live in Taiwan you can buy it directly from me. 500/calendar or 450/calendar for orders of 4 or more. I can meet people (usually at Aozidi Park) in Kaohsiung for free delivery or ship to an address within Taiwan for 100 TWD. If I ship it to you then payment can be done through a Taiwan bank transfer. You can message me through FB or respond to this post if you want one.

If you live outside of Taiwan or want to send it directly to you friends and family back home then you can order directly from the print on demand publisher. The price is 15.99 (but be sure to check the lulu.com homepage for a 20-30% off discount code) and usually shipping is $3-5 for US/CA/EU/AU.

I am finally getting work done (life is crazy busy) on the 2018 Taiwan's Waterfalls calendar. Which waterfall should go on the cover? You can vote by liking any or all of the photos included.

I am not including any repeats from last year and I think my top 3 photos are the following. Last year's cover was Shifen Waterfall and had a very green theme. Is it better or worse to pick another green dominated theme? Only landscape photos will be used this year.

Baxian Waterfall

Tiebilun Waterfall

Golden Grotto Waterfall

Some great footage of Taiwan and a few waterfalls in this video.

It is Waterfall Wednesday and our second round of the waterfall ABC's project. Aohua Waterfall currently has a 7 to 6 lead over Ali Waterfall for the best waterfall beginning with the letter A. I expect the voting for B to be similarly close with a couple of excellent options.

Pick one (or more) of the following waterfalls by liking it in the comments.
1) Baisha (White Veil) Waterfall in Taoyuan (from Richard Saunders site - wildaboutwaterfalls
2) Baiyang Waterfall in Taroko National Park
3) Baxian (8 Immortals) Waterfall in Hsinchu
4) Bianfudong (Bat Cave) Waterfall in Tainan
5) Bilin Waterfall in Hsinchu
6) Bishan Hot Spring Waterfall in Taitung

Not included - Baiyu Waterfall in Taitung

Voting is measured by the number of likes given to each waterfall photo posted below. Naming is using the Hanyu Pinyin name for each waterfall.

Do you know of any 'B' waterfalls that I haven't included?

Who has waterfalls in their weekend plans? The weather looks great and I am headed to Chiayi for what should be an amazing addition to the waterfall website.

Xianjing Waterfall now has a trail that goes down to the bottom although there are some rough parts and the bottom might only be accessible with ropes and some basic climbing.

It is Waterfall Wednesday and I want to start a new community project on this page. I want to create a favorite waterfall list for each letter of the alphabet. First up are the waterfalls beginning with the letter A. There actually aren't that many 'A' waterfalls but there is some decent competition although I have my favorite.

Pick one of the following by liking the photo in the comments
1) Ala Stream Waterfall
2) Ali Waterfall
3) Alibang Waterfall
4) Aohua Waterfall
5) Aowanda Waterfall

Voting is measured by the number of likes given to each waterfall photo posted below. Naming is using the Hanyu Pinyin name for each waterfall.

Do you know of any 'A' waterfalls that I haven't included below?

I am working on the 2018 Taiwan's Waterfalls Calendar and am trying something new. I want to include some waterfalls that are tall but that doesn't work very well in calendar format.

How does Wufengqi Waterfall look like this? I don't think I have quite found the right design.

Menghuan (Dream) Valley Waterfall isn't that far from the very popular Hudie (Butterfly) Valley Waterfall in Taichung but very few know about the more impressive Menghuan Valley Waterfall. The trail is overgrown and some basic routefinding skills are required though. Hikers looking for more of a challenge can continue up all the way to Baxianshan and hike out to Guguan.

Be safe out there during this weekend's typhoon. It might seem like a good idea to chase waterfalls after a typhoon but it can also be very dangerous. I am almost finished with The Best Waterfall Swimming Holes in Taiwan blog. Hopefully I will finish it tonight or tomorrow.

Shalawan Waterfall is one of Taiwan's best waterfalls. It is just one of many impressive waterfalls in this remote part of Pingtung. The other waterfalls are varying levels of really difficult to impossible to get to though but Shalawan is an easy 30-40 minute walk from the end of a terrible road. It drops about 80 meters into a huge pool.

Here is a great article on snakes in Taiwan. I still have a fear of snakes regardless if they actually aren't interested in me. Despite hiking all over Taiwan all the time, I have seen very few snakes here (and I am looking). I know that they are there but they hide very well.

If you are interested in snakes then you should check out the Snakes of Taiwan website. http://www.snakesoftaiwan.com/Start_Page_EN.htm

https://topics.amcham.com.tw/2017/07/herping-nocturnal-adventures-taiwans-forests/

The island is a great place to view many different species of snakes. When the temperature rises and rain falls, the life forms that inhabit Taiwan’s forests become more active. Some expatriates might loathe Taiwan’s sultry summers, but for snake aficionados Bill Murphy, Hans Breuer, and Dane Harris...

Qingwashi (Frog Rock) Waterfall in Hsinchu is one of those hidden waterfalls at a very popular tourist destination. Everyone stops at the top of the waterfall (can't see anything) to look at Frog Rock (not that great) but few follow the path down to the river to see the waterfall. Part of the reason for that is that there really isn't a good place to see the waterfall. This view is from a slippery, sloping rock and you will fall several meters into the water. It really only becomes dangerous if it is wet but it would be a challenge for some to swim (and not panic) and swim out a ways downstream.

I have been taking some time off from updating my guide and FB/IG with new information in June but I hope to write up several of my recent trips during the summer. I have a really busy summer schedule so I might not be out too many times until September.

Directions to Qingwashi (Frog Rock) Waterfall are below

Check out the World Wanderers podcast of Taiwan. They struggled with a bit of a letdown after traveling through Japan immediately before this trip but began to love Taiwan by the end. I am glad I was able to take them (and a big group) out to Feilong Waterfall and show that a very different side of Taiwan.

On our recent trip to Taiwan, we started with a visit to the capital city of Taipei where we took in the Shilin night market, a beautiful sunset on Elephant Trail near Taipei 101, and some delicious Taiwanese food - among other attractions! Traveling onwards to Kaohsiung, we enjoyed our visit to Feilung waterfall with Kirk of Taiwan's Waterfalls and a Giant Buddha, with the area having even more to see than we were able to take in.

On this episode we talk about our favourite things we did in Taiwan, a few tactics on how to pull yourself out of travel burnout, and Taiwan being a good option as a place to teach English in Asia, along with a number of other topics you definitely don't want to miss if you are planning on visiting Taiwan!

After starting as an e-book publisher in 2014 we put out one paperback in 2015, four in 2016, and eight so far in 2017. Lots more to come in the second half of the year.

Thank you all for your crucial support – we genuinely appreciate every Facebook and Twitter comment, every review, every purchase, every email we receive. It's a cliché, sure, but it really does make it all worthwhile.

Check out some summer swimming (and jumping) spots from my waterfall chasing friend Xiaofei.

Be safe when you jump. Check the water depth first and be careful climbing on the slippery rocks. And then HAVE FUN!

I have a trip planned to Hsinchu for the holiday weekend. We might stop at Meihua Waterfall again if there is time but do you have any recommendations for less visited waterfalls in Hsinchu or Taoyuan to visit.

I have been to Maliguang, Yuanyang, Meihouman (Huayuan), Guanwu (technically Miaoli), Taiyao, Frog Rock, Baxian and Youling (and a few others).

I plan on visiting Baxian, Honghe, Sandie, Caihong, Guyan, Qingcuan (spelling and not sure if it is significant), Frog Rock and hopefully Baisha (White Veil) if there is time. Maybe Meihua again since it is awesome.

Do you know of any other awesome but unknown waterfalls?
