Louisville has some great natural areas to visit right downtown. I started at the Waterfront Botanical Gardens. It’s a fully accessible path through a variety of plant life.

As you exit out the back of the garden you enter the waterfront park area where there is a paved path. You can continue on this path or drive over to the Big Four Bridge. This is an old railroad bridge crossing the Ohio River. It was converted to a fully accessible pedestrian crossing.

It’s about a mile across so many people ride bikes, run or walk. I enjoyed reading the history posted throughout the bridge span and the views were great!

Louisville is full of history! Founded in 1778 it has seen a lot of things happen over the years.

Today, the city is known as the home of boxer Muhammad Ali, the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Louisville Slugger baseball bats, and the Fortune 500 company Humana. A great place to learn about all these facts is on museum row.

Here you can visit the Frazier History museum and more. I personally was drawn to the Sons of the American Revolution genealogical library. I found a whole book on my family tree which was so cool to look through!

Louisville, Kentucky was named one of the best places to visit in 2024 in Travel and Leisure magazine. After my own quick weekend visit I can see why!

As their tourism site says it’s “an entirely different type of Southern. With a booming bourbon renaissance, iconic attractions, world-class hotels & venues and a renowned culinary scene, Louisville is an experience like no other city.”

Here’s the first of three posts highlighting some of my favorite moments from the weekend.

Let’s start with a visit to the entertainment district downtown. A lovely walking street filled with restaurants and bars. Lots of places to try out the famous bourbon flavors. There’s also a variety of international food combinations to taste.
