No wellness getaway is complete without a visit to the SPA, and here at the Andaz Mayakoba it was an exceptional experience.

On day of arrival, I enjoyed a private hydrotherapy session with William as my personal guide:
💦 Sauna
💦 Ice cold shower burst
💦 Homemade body scrub made on the premises using local ingredients: lime infused oil 🍋🟩, orange infused oil 🍊, honey 🍯 and course sugar. This scrub was to die for as I applied it to my body while in the steam room.
💦 Cool shower to rinse off
💦 Warm whirlpool bath with massage jets
💦 And this one is new for me: the hydrotherapy session also included a silky facial treatment with a grape-based mask 🍇 to extract impurities from the skin. I rocked gently in one of their spa rocking chairs while the treatment did its work for about 10-15 minutes.
💦 Before leaving the spa, I was offered a super velvety balm for my face and moisturizing cream for my body. NOW THAT’S HOW IT’S DONE!

Due to rain that followed for the next several days, I went back again this time for my first ever FOUR HANDS MASSAGE:
🧖🏼♀️ But first, I was able to create my own personalized massage oil in their home grown apothecary. I selected 2 spoonfuls each of cloves/mint/rosemary and then added anise-infused oil. Using a pilón (a mortar and pestle much like the one I inherited from my Puerto Rican mother!) I mixed and crushed the ingredients then strained the massage oil that would be used in my own spa treatment. This experience was SOOOO delightful that I’ve actually started doing it at home with herbs and oils from my own kitchen pantry. ¡Qué Bueno!
🧖🏼♀️ THANK YOU to Angela and Janely for delivering a perfectly synchronized four-hand deep tissue massage that was unlike anything I’ve experienced. Super relaxing, I almost levitated.
I literally cannot envision traveling without a visit to the spa. It is so MY JAM.

It’s been a couple of weeks but I wanted to make sure I share my experience at the Andaz Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen, MX. I stayed here for four nights in mid-June as a much needed escape from all the spinning plates and tennis balls coming my way. So glad I did, and despite some torrential rain I have to say this property and friendly staff delivered.
Here’s my ocean view room with private plunge pool. This room had tons of natural light and was only steps from the pool, beach, and restaurants. (Only beachside accommodations were open, lagoon-side section was closed for maintenance.) It was tastefully decorated with a modern, minimalist approach, accented by some local Mexican works of art.
For me, an outstanding feature of this room was the deck, cleverly placed between the bedroom and the bathroom, accessible on both sides with sliding floor-to-ceiling glass doors. Had it not been for the rain, this would have been an invitation to enjoy some private morning yoga right there! 🧘🏻♀️🧘🏼🧘🏽♂️

4 nights in Rome marked the beginning of their experience, followed by 3 nights in Florence including a day trip to San Gimignano and Sienna. Then back to Rome for a last hurrah before heading home.

Sadly, an unexpected illness threw a wrench into the mix for the Dad, for whom last minute plans were needed to be able to nurse himself in Rome while the rest of the family proceeded on to Florence. I was able to coordinate with my partner on the ground in Italy to secure separate lodging for him seamlessly, without causing any interruptions to their plan, freeing them of any worry or time spent handling.

I’m saddened to learn about the sudden death of a dear colleague and friend in the travel industry, Edouard Jean. We met only once in July 2021 at a travel advisor event in NYC, and since then Ed would periodically call me to provide guidance and expertise to help me grow my business. He was a model travel advisor and so passionate about mentoring incoming travel advisors. He is the reason why I became a member of ASTA - American Society of Travel Advisors. I joined his local NYC chapter but just never made it to any of his meetings…

Results from my professional photo shoot in Amsterdam are ready!
There were about 250+ shots taken in this 90-minute session, but these were the best ones.
Locations vary between the Western Canal Belt and De 9 Straatjes (Nine Streets district).
Our shoot started at 7:15 am on a cold morning (sounds crazy) but the photographer was right - there was no one but us on the streets, and very few bicycles.
We practically had the entire city to ourselves!
And by some stroke of luck it didn’t rain at all, not even one drop.

Let’s go to THE HAGUE & THE MAURITSHUIS MUSEUM!!!
🧑🏻⚖️ Tonight we visited this world famous city, The Hague, which is the seat of the Dutch parliament, home to the U.N.’s International Court of Justice, and King Willem-Alexander’s workplace.
🖼️ The Mauritshuis Museum is set in a 17th-century mansion displaying some of the most famous paintings of the Dutch Golden Age. Led by a museum official, we viewed and learned about masterpieces by Rembrandt, Hals, Fabritius and Vermeer (including his iconic Girl with a Pearl Earring which captured everyone’s attention all night.)

🍽️ an incredible gourmet dinner was arranged for us right there at the museum
🎻 accompanied by live music performed by students from the Royal Conservatory of the Hague.

A visit to DORDRECHT.
Dordrecht is the fifth largest city in the Western Netherlands, located in the province of South Holland.
I have to be honest, I was so taken by this picturesque city’s unique charm that I sort of wandered away from the group most times just to capture these photos. 📸
The historical harbor offers everything that makes the city so special: distinctive foot bridges, restaurants, cafés, beautiful homes overlooking the water, tons of nature and plant life, it just goes on and on.
I’m in love. 🥰

Walking Food Tour in Rotterdam!
🍴 This A.M. we explored the second-largest city in the Netherlands which is also home to one of the largest and busiest seaports in the world.
This city was pretty much destroyed by bombings during WWII, so Rotterdam was mostly rebuilt and this time, with an eye towards NYC architecture of the 1950s. I have to admit, some of these buildings remind me of midtown Manhattan! 🏙️
We also enjoyed some tasty local bites and local beer. PROOST! 🍺

KROLLER-MULLER MUSEUM
🎨 This afternoon we enjoyed a privately-led tour of the acclaimed Kroller-Muller Museum in De Hoge Veluwe National Park.
🤯 My mind is blown by the extensive collection of famous Dutch masters Van Gogh and Mondrian, with a sprinkle of Picasso and Gris (Spain) and Gauguin (France).
🗿 There’s also an impressive outdoor garden of sculptures as well, and thankfully it wasn’t raining today.
I loved Herman De Vries’ 1974 stone artwork displayed outside the museum, “My poetry is my world…”.

A.M. SHIP EXCURSION
🌷Our day begins with a morning exploration of the Dutch Countryside including a visit to a tulip nursery, Munsterflowers. I’m impressed not only by the sheer magnitude of the output of gorgeous tulips this nursery produces, but also by the love and commitment this family-run operation puts into it so that people all over the world can enjoy these unique beauties.
P.M. SHIP EXCURSION
🏪 Next, we visited Broeker Veiling, a historical auction market used in the early 1900s. This was a Dutch auction which started at the highest price and buyers shouted “Mine!” to claim the produce. And the winner would be the lowest bidder. Seems fair to me!

All guests who travel with are VIPs!
⚓️ First we were escorted down the canals by glass top boats to the amazing Amsterdam Maritime museum for an evening soirée.
🥂 Then, were welcomed to a champagne cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres in the courtyard atrium…
🎻 And entertained by a classical guitar and violin trio from one of the local music conservatories. The acoustics were amazing!
🍽️ After that, we moved on to a three course gourmet meal in the dining area. We appreciated the attention to detail here, each of the 120 place settings were just beautiful and the food presentation and service was impressive.
What a way to start this river cruising experience!

Day 4 - and final event day, ASTA River Cruise Expo: Ship excursions with !!!
🧀 GOUDA:
Today we embarked on a scenic ride to the quaint town of Gouda. The city is steeped in history going back to the 12th Century. We viewed 16th Century church St. John’s which, against all odds, has survived several wars. Then we walked over to the plaza where the Gothic Town Hall is located for some amazing photo and shopping opportunities. I even got myself a hearty wedge of Gouda cheese, this one made primarily from goat’s milk with a little chorizo in it - AMAZING.��🧑🏼🍳 CULINARY EXPERIENCE:
During our culinary workshop we learned how to make these sweet treats called Stroopwaffel. A little messy and sticky but lots of fun!
🇳🇱 WINDMILLS:�Kinderdijk is home to 19 historic windmills, the largest group in the The Netherlands and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We even had the chance to step inside a working windmill to observe its mechanics and living quarters. I’m so happy with some of thee glorious photos!

There are nine river cruise lines (three are exhibiting two ships each for a total of twelve) sitting at the port of Amsterdam, waiting for 1200+ professional travel advisors to explore each ship’s unique approach to their:

✨ lounges/bars
✨ fitness room
✨ wellness/spa
✨ pool/whirlpool
✨ other unique features and amenities
I’ve done hotel site inspections in the past, but nothing prepared me for the magnitude of this exercise, covering all 3 floors of 12 ships inside of just a few hours. I feel like I’ve walked a marathon today and I’m about to fall over, lol. 😅
BUT it was so much fun, and as a result, I’m that much more educated about - and super impressed by - these amazing products and better positioned to match the right river cruise line and their exciting itineraries with my VIP clients.
