The Bernini baldacchino in St. Peter’s Basilica is pictured here before and after its recent restoration sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The first photo was taken in late January before the project began, while the second shows the baldacchino shining with its original golden lustre before the closing Mass of the Synod of Bishops on synodality Oct. 27.

📢 Exciting Update on Sister Annella’s Beatification Cause!

It has been a year since our last significant update, and we’ve been working diligently to get to where we are today. We’re thrilled to share that Bishop Cozzens has officially established the Sister Annella Zervas Guild to support her beatification and canonization through prayer, awareness, and financial backing.

We’re grateful to the Sisters of Saint Benedict for access to the archives and cemetery at the Monastery in St. Joseph, MN. Please note that no items should be placed on Sister Annella’s tomb or the cross, and there should be no climbing on the crucifixion scene, to prevent damage.

We’re also excited to introduce our Guild Board of Directors, which includes Bishop Andrew Cozzens, STD, DD, as Ex Officio President; Monsignor David Baumgartner, JCL, as President; Peter Crary, JD, as Vice President; Debbie Peterson as Notary; Anna Kliner as Secretary; Deacon Jeff Reese as Treasurer; and members Jon Grell, Helen Healy, Peter Jordan, Nancy Dewey, Brenda Posch, Jayne Miller, Deacon Stuart Longtin, and Father Robert Schreiner, STL, who will serve as the Spiritual Director for the Cause. Amanda Zurface, JCL, is serving as the Diocesan Postulator.

Mark your calendars: On November 12, Bishop Cozzens will present Sister Annella’s cause to the USCCB during their General Assembly. Watch live at: usccb.org.

🙏 Support the cause by donating at https://bit.ly/4eH6uOy or by mail to Sister Annella Zervas Guild, 702 Summit Ave, Crookston, MN 56716 (checks payable to "Sister Annella Zervas Guild").

Thank you for your prayers and support as we continue this holy journey!

Today we commemorate the Battle of Poitiers (732 AD), where the forces of Charles Martel, defending Europe, halted the advance of Muslim armies into France.

His victory safeguarded Christendom and preserved the faith and earned him the title 'Savior of Christendom'.

🎨 "The Accolade" (1901) by Edmund Blair Leighton
🏛️ Location: Private collection, though it is widely reproduced in prints and remains one of the most iconic depictions of medieval chivalry.

🔍 The Story Behind the Artwork:
The Accolade is one of Edmund Blair Leighton’s most celebrated works, capturing the romanticized ideals of medieval chivalry. The painting depicts a solemn moment where a young knight, kneeling before a queen, is being ceremonially knighted. This act, known as an "accolade," confers knighthood. The knight kneels with his head bowed in submission and loyalty, while the queen taps him lightly on the shoulder with the flat side of a sword, symbolizing his rise to knighthood.

Leighton, renowned for his attention to historical details, paints the scene with intricate costumes and decorations that emphasize the grandeur and pageantry of the medieval court. The knight's red tunic with black heraldic emblems contrasts beautifully with the queen’s flowing white gown, adorned with golden embroidery, creating a striking balance between power and grace. The background, filled with onlookers and ornate architecture, frames the scene, adding to the sense of importance and nobility.
