JAPAN WEAVING & TEXTILE TOUR WITH SARA BIXLER AND TOM KNISLEY -
Sara: Our tour yesterday was so interesting learning about the processing of ramie fibers and the traditions of Katsuri weaving. We even had an opportunity to put our hands to work and try some weft ikat, each taking home a mug rug sized sample.

Sara: We had a fantastic day visiting a kimono factory that employed some of the most interesting dye processes we've ever seen!
For a meager 1 million yen we could bring one home for ourselves. For me the experience was priceless.

Sara: Big day today visiting the home of temari stitching. Our group had fun finding examples throughout the town including sewer grates and manholes. Even brought a few home for ourselves.

JAPAN WEAVING & TEXTILE TOUR WITH SARA BIXLER & TOM KNISELY - Sara: Fabulous day visiting a museum founded by artist Itchiku Kubota to house his famous hand dyed Kimonos, often dyed up to 30 times to achieve the complex design work over a year long period. Unfortunately you can not take pictures inside, but the building and property were amazing. I purchased so many books from their gift shop that are being added to the Glen's library.

The Japan Group - In Arimatsu we had a Tenugi dyeing workshop. We folded cotton fabric, clamped it between wooden triangles, then dipped the corners and/or sides in dye. The results were beautiful and so surprising! By Susan Cleveland
