For the next 10 days, the Clipper will be docked at the Waterfront, taking a break and preparing for the next leg: the ocean crossing to the Caribbean.

🏝️🐠Maldives to Mauritius 🐧⛵

From the serene beaches of the Maldives to the lively shores of Mauritius, the Clipper Stad Amsterdam finished her 14-day voyage across the Indian Ocean. The Clipper will stay in Port Louis until Wednesday, January 20th.

Aboard the Clipper crew and guests spent their time working and doing daily chores like cooking and hoisting the sails. They also found time to relax, get haircuts, dive into books, and roll the dice figuring out how many polar bears, ice holes and penguins were in sight... 📚✂️🎲 🐻‍❄️ 🐧

In the 18th century and earlier, the line-crossing ceremony was quite a brutal event, often involving beating pollywogs with boards and wet ropes and sometimes throwing the victims over the side of the ship, dragging the pollywog through the surf from the stern. In more than one instance, sailors were reported to have been killed while participating in a line-crossing ceremony. [Wikipedia]

Nowadays the Neptune Baptism Ritual held on the Clipper is an alternative fun initiation ritual, involving water baptism of passengers or crew who have never crossed the Equator before and an initiation into the court of King Neptune...

After a really lovely (and warm) stay in Chennai, where the crew was welcomed with colorful gifts, the Clipper sailed on to Mumbai. Here we will stay until the 24th of December. Until then we will be welcoming and hosting more guests from Randstad India and the Municipality of Amsterdam on board. It is a cool experience and interesting mix of cultures.
Meanwhile, the crew will also be busy preparing the ship for the next leg (to the Maldives 🌴🐠), as well as for Christmas and New Year celebrations on board with our guests 🎄🥂

Daarom gaan wij, Anne en Maartje van Team Clipper Stad Amsterdam, hen morgen helpen tijdens een inzamelingsactie. En jij kan daarbij helpen. Elke donatie is welkom en de KNRM heeft iets bijzonders te bieden...

Ben je op zoek naar een stoer teambuilding-evenement dan kun je dit ook bij de KNRM doen. Jouw team (tot 24 personen) wordt verwelkomd met koffie en thee bij een KNRM-boothuis. Na een inspirerende lezing over de achtergrond en geschiedenis van deze helden van de zee, gaan jullie het water op in een van de snelle reddingsboten. Jullie sluiten de middag af met een borrel.
