Registration is still open for the 6th annual Borah Epic Mountain Bike Race from Cable to Hayward on the awesome CAMBA trails. The race is this Saturday (the 9th)!

Yesterday I was at Strong Falls in Marinette County. This pic was taken by standing on an exposed boulder at the top of the falls. Later on, I was fortunate to get some terrific photos of the falls from standing on the rock ledges in the background shortly after sunset. Strong Falls (and the photos) will be on the website later this year.

After another late night, just finished edits/updates for the Wolf and several other rivers. Updated guides, descriptions, gpx files, and added links for camping.

Just need to do some updates to the existing hiking and bicycling trails webpages, and then more trails will be added to the site on a regular basis. ...including Devil's Lake State Park. The DLSP update will feature a pretty cool color Topo map (pdf) of the lake and trail system that I think everyone will like...

Muggy Buggy Fun Run & Xtreme Mud Run

Test your wits and mosquito-swatting skills on our timed trail running race, the Muggy Buggy 5K. After an awards ceremony for the top overall and age class male and female finishers, strut your stuff in our Xtreme Mud Run. The 2.5km course traverses our highest hills, deepest swamps, and buggiest marshes. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers as they complete the course.

The whole event wraps up well before noon, ensure you have the majority of the afternoon and event to cerebrate the holiday parades and fireworks!

Just updated the entire Peshtigo River guide. Updates include: better descriptive details about the rapids, flow info, an online USGS water data chart, much more info about camping, links for online camping reservations, more accurate river mileage, and updated the GPS files.

This photo of the Eau Claire Dells on the Eau Claire River was taken last week when the river level was at 3000 cfs. It's hard to tell from looking at the photo, but those drops range from 6 to 10 feet high!

"Moose Tracks, a Braveheart Snowshoe Racing Series event, kicks-off with a mass start at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2016. The race course winds through the trails and forests of Minocqua Winter Park. Starting from our chalet, racers will complete one or two laps of a scenic and challenging 5km trail that includes sections of cross-country trails, single-track snowshoe trails, and powder."

First winter storm for northern Wisconsin of the Season! Forecast is calling for up to 10 inches of snow across the north-central and northeast areas of the state. Could be excellent cross-country skiing in these areas for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Unfortunately this same storm is likely to bring sleet and freezing rain to the southern and eastern parts of Wisconsin so please drive carefully everyone!

Granite Peak Ski Area is opening for the season tomorrow at 4pm

Friday through Sunday they'll be open from 9am to 9pm, then regular season hours begin on Monday, Dec 7th...

Granite Peak Ski Area, located in Rib Mountain State Park in Wausau, Wisconsin, has 72 runs on a 700 foot mountain and draws skiers and snowboarders from a 10-state region throughout the Midwest.

Visited Picnic Point on the Mondeaux Flowage today. One of my favorite camping places in Wisconsin. Although today it was cold, windy, and drizzling.

If you've never been here, the Mondeaux Flowage is a very scenic, 4 mile-long stretch of the Mondeaux River located in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The flowage features a very scenic stretch of the Ice Age Trail, 4 lakeside campgrounds, several scenic picnic and day-use areas, the Aldo Leopold Commemorative Trail, and excellent flatwater paddling.

Lots of rain in the last 24 hours across Wisconsin, over 3" in some areas - including the Wolf River watershed. Some good late-season whitewater can be found at several rivers: the Bois Brule, Eau Claire (Marathon County), Pike, and the upper Wolf...

More rain is expected tonight in several areas...

The Midwest Freestyle Championships are at Wausau Whitewater Park, Saturday & Sunday, August 15th & 16th.

"All skill levels are welcome to join in the fun for this freestyle competition. Just started paddling? Not sure if you’re ready to compete? We’ve got a beginner competition just for you. So give it a shot! Beginners will compete at the “Number 4″ hole and all other classes at Little Drop. All competitors will be entered into a drawing (must compete to be in the drawing) for a new Jackson kayak and other prizes. The drawing will be held following tear down on Sunday. Must be present to win. The paddler who wins the beginner and intermediate recreation class must move up in class the following year."

Just uploaded a new PDF guide and map for the Flambeau River South Fork - FS2. The new guide features better descriptions of the rapids relevant to water levels. Also the names of several of the rapids have been changed to what are hopefully the 'correct' names.

The GPX files will be updated within a day or so for the Flambeau River with a new waypoint naming system, and each file will now include tracks. Several other rivers on the site already have the new system - with tracks. The rest of the rivers will be done within a week or so.

Once the GPS files are all updated, Devils Lake State Park will finally be uploaded to the website. Got a new contour map am excited to share! This will be announced here on Facebook.
