The Banyan Tree. If this photographer knew how she would have snapped a picture of the Banyan Tree in Lahaina's Courthouse square. It was 8 feet tall when it was planted in 1873 and now reaches a height of 50 feet, has 12 major trunks and stretches out over a 200 foot area. It has grown to cover two thirds of an acre. This Banyan tree pictured is on Maui but a much smaller version. (Robert Smiths Hiking Maui pgs. 113,158,160)
