� � Heybo - Rick Hahne Calls - SpringBack Decoys My name is Jake Riley. I am 22 years old and have loved gun dogs for as long as I can remember.

I grew up hunting quail and working with my father's pointers. When I got a new job I became very good friends with a long time duck hunter who took me to an Arkansas rice field for the first time. As I watched a mutual friend's 12 year old, gray faced chocolate lab named Chief bring back my first goose I have been hooked ever since. I helped him train his new pup the next year where he needed it

and the obsession just grew deeper. Since then I have trained my first chocolate lab, Moose, who I believe has taught me more than I have him. Over the past 5 years I have learned as much as possible about training retrievers through trial and error, videos, books, and other dog owners experiences. Hunting and working with dogs is my true passion, and I would love to help you produce the best retriever and companion possible.

Well my last dog of the season went home this morning, so I can officially make this announcement. As of today, the Riley’s Retrievers kennel will be closing indefinitely. 5 years ago, I started training dogs for other people in my spare time, simply because I enjoyed working with young dogs and turning them into hunting partners and family members. It was never about money or becoming recognized, it was just something I enjoyed doing. Since then I’ve been blessed with the ability to build a kennel to house more dogs, have enough work that I was having to turn people away, meeting all kinds of wonderful people, having a little extra spending money for hunting season... all great things, right? Over the past year, with the help of the Lord, I have realized how much time dog training has taken away from my walk with Him(studying/praying), my time with my new wife and our family, my time as a trustee, my time with my church family, my time taking care of my home... basically all the time I should be taking care of what is most important was being spent with the dogs. The nail in the coffin was a few weeks ago when I taught a Bible study lesson to my church family about the things of this world taking our time and focus away from Jesus. It really hit home when every example I used in the lesson was me and my life. The curse of man does tell us that we are to work to provide for ourselves and our family, but it does not mean to devote every hour of every day to our jobs. When it takes priority over the Lord like it has, then it becomes sinful. So for the foreseeable future I will not be taking on anymore dogs for training or boarding. As much as I love working with dogs, I love Jesus a lot more. And after what He sacrificed for me (and all of mankind), the least I can do is sacrifice my part time job/hobby to devote more time to Him and my family. I want to thank everyone that has supported me and/or trusted me with their pets over the last few years. I have enjoyed every minute of it. And if I can ever help answer questions on working with your dogs I will be glad to help!

April to August with Rip and Dabo. The guys are just as ugly, but the dogs had quite the glow up. 😂 With the flooding west of Nashville it took about 12 hours of driving and going to 3 different states but we got these boys back home to their families! I can’t wait to watch their first season unfold.

I would now like to introduce the Riley’s Retrievers graduating class of 2021! It has been a pleasure to work with each of these dogs this summer. I can not wait to see their future with their families and in a duck blind! From the left:

If you truly want your dog to be happy, don’t let it do whatever it wants to do. Give them a job. Consistently work with them to teach them that job. Praise them when they do good. Discipline them when they do bad. When a dog figures out its purpose, then it will truly be happy.

Pretty cool moment last night, for Turbo and myself. He retrieved his first bat in an official Minor League Baseball game. A lot of hard work finally paid off last night. Nice job Turbo! Bowling Green Hot Rods

I’m not sure what I’d do without this girl. From helping me with the dogs, to helping me around to house, to helping me catch fish for the church fish fry... She’s willing to help me without complaint every time... She is no doubt the “help meet” the Lord intended for me to have, and I’ll forever be thankful for that. Dabo and Rip will be going home in a couple weeks. It’s bitter sweet for me. It’s been awesome getting to work with Moose’s pups and see the similarities between them and their pops. I hate to send them back to Texas but I can’t wait to see how their first season ends up. I know they’re going to end up being find hunting partners and family members.
