Tom Lane, otherwise known as Ginger Monkey, is an independent illustrator, lettering artist and designer currently living in Bristol, UK. His body of work encompasses intricate packaging designs, playful typographic posters, company branding, obsessively detailed illustrations and nearly everything in between. Having worked extensively over the last 10 years for clients including Nike Air Jordan,

Coco-Cola, Sony Ericsson, Post Office, and Heston Blumenthal Tom has developed invaluable experience in producing refined and visually striking projects. Believing exploration and play to be key features of a happy and long career, Tom works hard to improve his range of skills and apply them daily. When not wielding a mechanical pencil or tablet stylus he can often be found experimenting with his bundle of Calligraphy tools, aiming one day to add ‘Calligrapher’ to his growing list of credentials.

New work for the wonderful Doc Brown Farm & Distillers. A farm growing heirloom Jimmy Red Corn, milling, fermenting and distilling it, then ageing the liquid in locally made charred barrels to make an old-style bourbon.

Coastal Distillery approached Ginger Monkey Design to rebrand their entire outfit. They wanted a more individual brand with a premium feel that tells a deeper story for greater traction.

Late in 2019, a venture led by Jim Cramer (of Mad Money fame in America) and his wife, Lisa Detwiler contacted us with a unique product and a branding challenge. They wanted to launch Fósforo (match in Spanish), a traditionally made artisanal mezcal in the US market.

Mezcal is a carefully guarded commodity, with strict denominación de origen rules applied by the Mexican government, giving the project an interesting background. Fósforo is made from the tobalá maguey, a variety of agave, which is roasted in an earthen pit, crushed, fermented and distilled by fourth generation mezcalero Aarón Alva Sánchez.
