His diagnosis was a long time coming, and rather than taking it as a blow, we took it as a step forward in knowing our adversary. My son is a sensory seeker who struggled with motor planning/mild dispraxia, visual, auditory, and tactile hypersensitivity, and proprioceptive hyposensitivity. He received intensive services from an amazing Occupational Therapist at the Easter Seals Capper Foundation i
n Topeka, KS who introducted to me the concept of weighted blankets and products. After searching extensively for weighted blankets and toys, I was met with the harsh reality that the blankets for sale were far beyond my budget. I simply couldn't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a blanket my son would outgrow in short order, so we decided to make it ourselves at significantly lower cost and customize it to his specific needs. This aha! moment was in fact the birth of our design team and overall vision. Our design team consists of three primary individuals. Maria, in charge of concepts and design creates designs with consideration for the specific and widely varied needs of Sensory Kids. As a Sensory Mom, I've had extensive experience in determining what works and what doesn't. Caden is our product tester. He helps us determine efficacy of our designs simply by virtue of who he is. Our products are designed to survive his rough and tumble nature while maintaining safety, affordability, and theraputic applicability. Ardie is the heart, soul, and lifeblood of our team. With decades of experience as a professional tailor in addition to many years working with developmentally disabled persons both personally and professionally, Ardie's well rounded experience is absolutely invaluable. Our goal as a whole is to provide exceptionally sensory products tailored to meet the needs of an individual at a "Common Sense" price.
