Town for £1 is a new pilot scheme which has been set up by Barnsley Hackney Carriage Association. Look out for participating taxi's with a taxi roofsign ( black and white and black cab type vehicles ) displaying YELLOW stickers in the window and simply put out your hand, you will then get a trip into town for only £1 ( or less in some cases* see terms and conditions ) per person ( 50p for children
with accompanying adult ), that's cheaper than the bus! The main drop off point is Barnsley bus/train station, however we will drop off anywhere on the main direct route ( on the main road ) as long as it is in the direction of travel. Launch date, Monday 23rd May 2011. Terms and conditions
Only taxis licensed as hackney carriages by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council that display a roofsign with the word “TAXI” and a sticker issued by Barnsley Hackney Carriage Association to indicate a vehicle’s participation in the scheme may participate in the scheme. From anywhere in the Borough, directly to Schwrbisch Gmund Way (the railway station) the fixed fare for journeys commenced between 7am and 8pm shall be £1 for 1 person to hire the taxi and £1 per person for subsequent passengers ( 50pence for a child accompanied by an adult ), save that no discounts or concessions will be applied; *and if the total of the charges are greater than the standard cost by taxi, the fare shall be less than that displayed on the taximeter. If a customer wishes to be dropped off on the direct route to the railway station, but before reaching it, the taxi will make one stop for that purpose for the fixed fare. If a customer requires the taxi to make more than one stop and / or to deviate for any reason whatsoever from its direct route to the railway station, the fare displayed on the taximeter shall be payable in full. Children may only travel if accompanied by a responsible adult. Taxis will only stop to pick up or drop off where in the opinion of the driver it is safe to do so and when not prevented from doing so, because the taxi is already hired and / or is already travelling to pick up a pre-booked fare. The scheme may be terminated or altered without notice at any time.
