A fantastic start to the week with this theatre group from Oregon - returning for the second year in-a-row. As last year we went off looking for theatre history in the West End - different theatres this year but the same lovely group. Always great to welcome my “Repeat Offenders” back to London!

Out-and-about in old Soho (where they drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola/c-o-l-a cola) this morning. It’s the final on-street session with the City of Westminster Guide Lecturers' Association students 23/24 before their exams and I’m looking forward to our session today
In 19 years of being a this has only happened once before… 4 walking tours in one day.

The day started with a very sparky bunch of 9- and 10-year-olds looking for immigration & multiculturalism tales from the Kindertransport statue at Liverpool Street to Spitalfields. Then with a lovely office group of international work colleagues we explored the East End’s social & political history. From there via Elizabeth Line to the West End for The Seven Deadly Sins of Covent Garden with another lovely office group, this time from Google. And the evening was rounded off by a most excellent group of Texan students on the Ghosts of the Old City Walk 💀.
I couldn’t do 4 tours every day of course 😜 but this day I’ve had an absolute blast ❤️ Best job in the world. Thanks to everyone who joined me. All tours bookable through London Walks . Right… bedtime 🥱 🥾

Starting the weekend with a morning in the classroom presenting a talk on the practical aspects of with the students on the 2023/24 City of Westminster Guide Lecturers' Association tour guiding course. Looking forward to a new week of tour guiding following a fun and fascinating weekend – the highlight of which was working with the students on the 2023/24 City of Westminster Guide Lecturers' Association tour guiding course. They certainly passed the weather test in the pouring rain! Well done guys, a pleasure working with you, looking forward to seeing you for our classroom session next weekend.

Back from annual sabbatical and back on the streets leading in London this weekend.
Fantastic today to get me back in the London frame of mind. A 15-mile circular route - Islington, City, Southwark, South Bank, Westminster, Belgravia, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Hyde Park, Marylebone, Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury, Clerkenwell. Good to be home!

On the very cold days I feel it’s good to let my lovely walkers get away for a hot drink at the end of a tour without asking them to linger for a photo… so here instead is a snap of an irresistible Kensington sunset taken at the end of today’s tour. It’s been a while since we had a sunset finale like this. It says to me that we’re more than halfway through January and the days are starting to lengthen.

A good way to spend a wet January Saturday evening doing something a bit different. I highly recommend the walk to Londoners and non-Londoners alike.
