In the words of Maya Angelou, And Still I Rise. Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, through our travels we’ve been able to visit the birth home of MLK in Atlanta and the site of his assassination in Memphis, while these experiences can be somber, I’m thankful the girls have seen these places with their own eyes, you can never take away someone’s education!

Hello from Sossusvlei, Namibia home of Deadvlei and the largest sand dunes in the world.

Did you know the Namibian desert is the oldest desert in the world at roughly 55 million years old? In contrast the Sahara desert is believed to only be about 2-7 million years old.

We climbed Dune 45 but Sossusvlei is also home to Big Daddy Dune which is 325 meters tall (1,066ft). We decided to admire it from the path below after climbing Dune 45.

Deadvlei, where the first photo was taken was formed after rainfall, when the Tsauchab river flooded, creating temporary shallow pools where the abundance of water allowed camel thorn trees to grow, basically a miracle in this area.

The trees are estimated to be 900 years old, but they haven’t decomposed because the area has become too dry for that to even happen.

To get here you have to climb Big Daddy dune or walk nearly a mile in the sand, parallel to Big Daddy Dune.

Either option you choose be sure to bring water and climb early on the morning (the park opens at 6am). By 9am it was BLAZING and the temps were 102 degrees by noon. You MUST wear closed toe shoes for the hike because if not the sand with burn your feet by 10am. I just wore sandals for the pictures but hiked here in boots.

We stayed at Sossuvlei Lodge which is 2 minutes from the entrance of the park Swipe through and you’ll see some of the animals that walked through the lodge daily.

Seriously add Namibia to your travel list, it’s one of the most beautiful countries I’ve visited! Still have more to share so hope y’all ain’t tired of me yet!

Welcome to Sandwich Harbour where the Namibian desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. Seriously an epic experience! The best time to experience Sandwich Harbour is during low tide so you can drive along the beach like we did.

While self drives are permitted I don’t even understand how the tour guides fined their way so I highly recommend booking a tour as the hired guides often have to safe those who choose to self drive and get lost. Our tour was with Alex from and he was amazing, request him!

After an amazing time exploring the dunes we Alex set up a lunch picnic for us which was delicious.

Y’all know I know plan all of trips but life was lifing when we decided to go to Namibia so I enlisted help from the amazing Sister of . It’s a Namibian owned and operated company and Sister went above and beyond with everything, including securing a surprise cake for my dad for this day on his birthday. He says it’s the best birthday he’s ever had.

Do not come to Namibia without visiting Swakopmund and/or Walvis Bay which are the closest cities to Sandwich Harbour, it’s truly a highlight.

There are only 3 places in the world that the desert meets the ocean so super blessed to visit one. Do you know where the others are?

This is not Utah or Arizona, this is Namibia, ! Namibia is known as “the land of many faces”, the landscape literally changes every ten minutes when you’re driving. The country is home to the oldest desert in the world and the second-largest canyon in the world, everything here is just stunningly beautiful and we really enjoyed spending the day here in Spitzkoppe.

We visited on the way from Etosha to Swakopmund and while you can camp here overnight we just did a day visit. The entrance fee is 130 NAD per person (about $7) but if you want to do some of the long hiking tours you’ll have to pay additional fees per hike you choose to do with a guide. There is a restaurant there with a limited menu that we had lunch before exploring. You don’t need a 4x4 to explore here, any car will suffice.

Super thankful to have spent the past 9 days exploring Namibia with my parents. They are the reason travel is such a big part of my life and I love exploring the world with them now especially with the girls. Do you travel with your parents?

I have so much to share from Namibia I’m honestly overwhelmed but that’s a good thing. What if anything have you heard about Namibia?

Can’t get over how much fun we had at the gorgeous . It was the perfect way to unwind and spend time with our friends and family all under one roof! With so much to do at the resort there was no reason to leave but if you must explore Orlando while here it’s close to the theme parks (you can see the fireworks at Disney from the property), Downtown Orlando and more.

Use code MONET25 for 25% off booking of 4+ nights in any House or Flat now through February 28, 2025!
