YAY!! 😀⛱⛵Renovation of the Puerto Peñasco-Sonoyta Highway Set to Begin in Early 2025 ~ The long-awaited project for the complete renovation and modernization of the 100-kilometer Puerto Peñasco-Lukeville highway is officially underway, with construction expected to commence in the first quarter of 2025. Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño announced that this significant infrastructure project will be financed through a 3-billion-peso private investment.

During a visit to Puerto Peñasco on Tuesday, the Governor shared that the executive plans for the project are complete, including a bypass route in Sonoyta. The next step is the public bidding process for the highway concession.

Governor Durazo acknowledged the poor current condition of the Puerto Peñasco-Sonoyta road. The project will involve a full renovation and slight widening of the roadway from the U.S. border to Puerto Peñasco. Additionally, it will include the construction of the Benemérito de las Américas Boulevard in Sonoyta, creating a modern, first-class route.

As this project involves private funding, a toll booth will be installed along the highway. However, the toll will apply only to foreign-registered vehicles, while vehicles with Mexican plates will be exempt.

Durazo highlighted the broad impact of this project, noting that it will enhance road safety and stimulate economic growth for the entire region, benefiting local communities significantly.

Regarding the Home Port for cruise ships in Puerto Peñasco, Durazo acknowledged that its reactivation is progressing more slowly than the highway project. However, he remains optimistic, as discussions are ongoing with a potential investor. There is also potential for federal support to ensure the completion of this vital maritime infrastructure.
