View from the ice shelves that form at Park Point Beach along Lake Superior in Duluth.
Ice shelves are large bodies of ice that form near the shore but extend on top on the water. These are actually quite dangerous to walk on as the ice can melt and shift, making it possible to drop through into the freezing water.
So, if you visit, enjoy the view from close to the visible shoreline (sand) like I did. It’s incredible to think that this is a beach in the warmer months!
*SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY*
I finally did it - my calendar is available for purchase on Etsy! For years I've created wall calendars with inspiring travel photos to gift to friends and family. This year, I'm making them available to the world.
The 2022 theme is 'Seek Adventure, Spread Joy, Find Beauty' and it features incredible outdoor destinations in and around Minnesota.
It's the perfect gift for any outdoor lover who needs some inspiration in their home or workspace.
Whether or not you purchase one, commenting, liking and sharing this post is a great way to support small businesses like mine. Thank you!

Willow River State Park
Just 30 minutes from Minneapolis, just across the border in Wisconsin, this park is a perfect spot for a day hike, picnic or just splashing in the waterfall. If you are a Minnesota resident, you can purchase a day pass for your vehicle.
My dog, Hank, and I walked a 4 mile loop from the beach to the waterfall and back to get our Sunday started. Heads up - there are very few trash bins at the park, so if you bring your pet or picnic be sure to pack out what you carry in!
Ever wonder what the bathroom situation is like on the Superior Hiking Trail? Well, here you go.
Each campsite has a latrine, which is essentially a toilet seat over a pit with no walls in the middle of the woods. Fortunately, they are mostly not visible from the campsite but yes, you are quite exposed.
Would this be a dealbreaker for you?
We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to enjoy the view from the 270 Degree Overlook at the Northern Terminus of the Superior Hiking Trail.
From here you can see Canada and a glimpse of Lake Superior. It was the start of my 5 day backpacking adventure with 3 complete strangers I met through a Facebook group. What could possibly go wrong? 😉
Looking for a thrill? Head over to Sand Creek Adventures for an afternoon of ziplining in Jordan Minnesota!
The course has 3 different ziplines, each is unique. This one has a steep dropoff with a slide for you to ride on as you leave the platform! How fun is that?
Cabin goals.
If I could bottle up the Scandinavian modern meets cozy vibe and make it my own cabin in the woods with a field of wildflowers, I would.
This gem is about to open up for guests and is located just 90 minutes from the Twin Cities in Frederic, Wisconsin. I’ll be sharing all about the things to do on the property and nearby soon!
Would you stay here?

VOYAGEURS NATIONAL PARK | Minnesota
One of the most unique National Parks is nestled along the Canadian border in northern Minnesota. Voyageurs NP is almost exclusively accessible by water (except in winter when it’s frozen 😂).
There are 3 main ways to visit the park in warmer months:
1️⃣ Paddle in and camp
2️⃣ Rent a houseboat to explore in
3️⃣ Stay in a nearby lodge and do day trips by boat or canoe/ kayak
I’m excited to share that next month I’ll be renting a houseboat in Voyageurs NP for the first time. I’m putting together a complete guide to explain how to plan your visit to this gem of a park.
