Today - March 17th - is the anniversary of the 1742/3 murder of Rye's Deputy Mayor Allen Grebell, in the Churchyard, by the drunken butcher, John Breads. Breads' skull - in its gibbet cage - is still kept in the Town Hall to this day... Guided Walks and Ghost Walks of Rye, led by the Town Crier, which include viewing the skull, will be starting again at Easter!

Hi all, I have had to temporarily suspend my Guided Walks as my mother is currently ill and can't be left unattended. Walks with the Town Crier will resume as soon as possible.
In the meantime, Rye Heritage Centre are running Guided walks with a different guide, so do please contact them for details.

THIS WEEK'S GUIDED WALKS OF RYE WITH THE TOWN CRIER:

Sunday 7th July 11am
All walks start outside Rye Heritage Centre and include admission to the 18th century Town Hall, not usually open to the public!
Walks last 2.5 hours, adults £12.50, kids free. Book via Rye Heritage Centre

SUSSEX DAY - SUNDAY JUNE 16TH
Celebrate our County at a special, short event outside Rye Town Hall at 12:30pm on Sunday! I will be proclaiming the Sussex Charter; Ryebellion Drummers will be drumming; Revd Paul White will be saying the Sussex Prayer of St Richard of Chichester, our patron saint; there will be special contributions from The Mayor (Cllr Andy Stuart ), Isabel M Ryan , John Case and Martin Bruce ( Kt Bruce ) and Cllrs Rebekah Gilbert and Andi Rivett will lead us all in singing "Sussex By The Sea".
Come along and help celebrate our beautiful county, its history and traditions!

- Saturday 15th June: 7pm: GHOST WALK starting outside Rye Town Hall (book via Rye Town Council website)
