A very inspiring email from Ken.
I decided that my trip this summer would be my favourite, Walney to Whitby, well actually Scarborough.
It was also the tenth anniversary of first completing the trip which I have completed 6 times in various forms, the most recent from Ayr to Whitby. That was a cracker.
I was blessed with a strong tailwind from Barney to Kildale and fine weather during the days.
I always forget how hard the first day to Kendal campsite is and how exhilarating the ride down from Tan Hill. I was pleased to see that the deadly Sleightholme track has been improved in some parts, and the food is still good in Penny's in Barnard Castle. I also managed to catch the excellent folk club when I camped at Robin Hood's Bay.

There is no finer way to experience northern England.There are many foreign cyclists I meet on the Sustrans trails who are totally hooked on cycling the byways of Scotland and northern England. This year I met more than ever, including a German gent who was on his way to Shetland from Norway on a North Sea route.

The George Hotel has just been awarded runner up in the Channel 4 programme “4 IN A BED” we got 95% of our asking price. Room 2 ( family room which sleeps 5) Room 3 ( double with ensuite) or Room 6 ( king size with ensuite) were all featured on the programme.

Come on, Walney! Surely you can do better than this. The uninspiring start to the superb Walney to Whitby/Wear cycle route. An amazingly stunning route - it deserves better.
