We are absolutely heart-broken to announce that one of Tour Mandalay’s longest-serving sales managers, Ma Ei Theingi Tin, lost her battle with COVID today.
Having worked at Tour Mandalay since 1999, Ma Theingi—or Gi-Gi as she was affectionately known by partners—was one of our brightest stars. As Ferenc Utassy, the Honorary Consul General of Iceland, puts it, “Theingi was an eternal sunshine in all storms”.
She was an absolute delight to be around and an indispensable part of the team. We’d lose count of the number of compliments she’d receive at WTM trade shows – from Red Savannah to Jon Baines Tours, those she worked with were quick to wax-lyrical about her can-do attitude, attentiveness and enviably polite manner.
As Ed Granville, COO of Red Savannah, reflects, “She was known by absolutely everyone here, even those who did not have any contact with her, as a complete superstar and one of the finest operators that we had the pleasure of working with. She was a total delight to work with and I enjoyed dinner with her in Yangon enormously, all those years ago. Most of all, she cared so much about each and every booking that we worked on together and clients could not have been better looked after. She was a complete professional and brilliant at her job.”
Those who had the fortune of working with her in our Yangon office, we're sure, will be quick to comment on her wonderfully infectious, ever-present smile. We cannot think of a day when she graced our presence without. We will continue to use the memory of this, along with Ma Theingi’s glowing spirit, to light our way forward during this testing time.
The loss of Ma Theingi and Ko Nay Moe (our close friend and supplier in Kayah State) in such a short space of time highlights just how bad the pandemic’s become in Myanmar. Rest in peace Ma Theingi, you were one of the very best. May your spirit continue to brighten the world.
