We are having a major *winter* storm here in NH. The snow is piling up. And I am dreaming of warm sunshine and bright blue seas.

Today I got to have ANOTHER new-to-me experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

At Rafiki’s Planet Watch guests can look right into the veterinary hospital where many of the animals who call Animal Kindom Park their home get their medical care. I’ve been wanting to see this for years but either couldn’t squeeze it in or arrived to find no procedures being done. This morning, however, was different!

I arrived at 9:45 to find there was a plan to examine a female Nile soft-shelled turtle at 10am I took my spot at the window looking into the hospital and waited patiently. Finally at 10:15 they wheeled the patient in and began.

This turtle has been a bit lethargic and not eating super well recently. She has a history of some reproductive health issues so they zeroed in on that as a possible cause. They completed X-rays, blood work, a physical exam, and an ultrasound, right there in front of us! Along the way they explained to us what was happening and what they were seeing, and they took questions from us too, relayed into the room by a Cast Member in the room with us .

In the end they found that she has a lot of follicles in her ovaries, so they hope she is about to ovulate and then lay some eggs. If that doesn’t happen they will have to do the egg retrieval for her. For now they are going to give her plenty of space to nest and provide her with some fertility substrate both of which will hopefully help the process along .

It was so neat to be so close to the action! It was like being in an episode of The Magic Of Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

When you go, be sure to take one of the first trains from Harambe to Rafiki’s. And know that Wednesdays there are often no procedures since that is when they meet I for case review.

One of the questions I get a lot is, “Why do you keep going back to Disney World? Doesn’t it get boring doing the same things over and over?”

The fact is, with as many times as I’ve been here, I still haven’t done everything that there is to do. And there are new things added all the time. In fact, just about every single trip I’ve had has included at least one new experience. This trip is no different. Yesterday I got to do two things that were new to me!

First, I enjoyed the Behind the Seeds tour at The Land pavilion, which gives you a behind the scenes of the Living with the Land attraction, and all of the agricultural things that are happening there. I got to be in the areas that you see as you pass by in the boats, and learned a whole lot about all of the efforts they are making to learn new and better ways to grow plants and fruits and vegetables that are conservation-minded. The one hour tour was very inexpensive and was an hour well spent!

Last evening, I finally got to enjoy dinner at Citrico’s at the Grand Floridian. This signature dining experience has subtle Mary Poppins themed decor in a gorgeous room with huge windows overlooking the resort. I had some really delicious food and drinks and was in the very best hands with my server who provided impeccable service. Everything was beautifully plated and the timing on which each dish was brought out was absolutely perfect.

I’ll never run out of new things to see and do at Walt Disney World!!

I had the most beautiful day yesterday!

I started out with a quick service breakfast at Port Orleans Riverside, and got to say good morning to some fabulous characters before I headed off to Epcot! 

I spent much of the day enjoying so many things, including the special offerings at Festival of the Arts as well as some of the regular attractions. I got to do:
* living with the land 
* the living seas
* a meet and greet with Moana 
* the paint by number mural 
* an incredible harpist, playing wonderful music at the entrance to World Showcase 
* the acrobat show Art Defying Gravity (so bendy and strong!)
* some festival, food and drinks 
* the mariachi band in Mexico
* the Animation Academy where I drew a pretty good looking Jack Jack
* a performance by The Voices of Liberty 

All along the way, I stopped at the the many booths to view artists’ work, and was very impressed by all of the talent in this world! 

Then I hopped on a ferry over to Hollywood Studios! I have been lining up lightning lane experiences throughout the day while I was at Epcot, and so I did all of the following in about 90 minutes:
* Tower of Terror 
* Toy Story Mania
* Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway 
* an incredible charcuterie board and cocktail at Baseline Taphouse while people watching 

I took the Skyliner back over to Epcot to ride Soarin Over California and watch the light show on Spaceship Earth.

I hopped on my bus back to Port Orleans, French Quarter, and had a little snack of beignets - a pretty SWEET part of staying there! - before hitting the sack as I drifted off to sleep, I could hear the clip clop of a horse-drawn carriage, passing by my rver view room, which was a pretty nice way to fall asleep!

Friends, I had such an AMAZING night at After Hours at Magic Kingdom last night!

This separate ticketed event took place from 10pm-1am and delivered on all it promised to offer! With my ticket I was able to enter the park as early as 7pm. I arrived by monorial at 8:30 after enjoying dinner at Tambu Lounge at Polynesian Village Resort. Happily Ever After was just concluding and I stepped into Main Street just in time to see the finale 🎆

I ducked into Main Street Bakery while the crowd departed and got myself a hot tea - it was quite chilly last night and I was as worried I would end up too cold (a rare experience at WDW!) to enjoy myself (I wasn’t, but I did pop on my hat later on!).

I took some photos and strolled around enjoying my tea, eventually making my way to Prince Charming’s Carousel where I was one of only a handful of riders, and then headed to Haunted Mansion, which showed a 13 minute wait (this is a secret code telling you it’s a walk-on 😉🤫). I meandered over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad afterward and enjoyed a 5-minute wait and the wildest ride in the wilderness! Walking over to Pirates Of the Caribbean, I found myself as the only guest on the walkway! 😳

Pirates was a walk-on and indeed there were THREE empty boats in front of mine, which was itself only half-full!

After riding I helped myself to some of the complimentary snacks - I got a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich and a water - and sat down to enjoy the Enchanted Tiki Room (there were only abou 8 other guests in there with me!).

I wandered back through Frontierland, grabbing some popcorn and another water, and they announced that the nighttime spectacular Enchantment was starting in 10 minutes, so I went to the hub. I was ASTOUNDED by how few people there were! If you’ve watched fireworks at Magic Kingdom before you know it’s elbow to elbow, especially in the Hub. Not last night! I had all kinds of room around me - literally the nearest person was three feet to my right! The fireworks were great and made even nicer by that experience!

Following the show I headed to Fantasyland with the idea to ride 7 Dwarfs Mine Train, but everyone else did that too. 🤣 So instead I rode the Mad Tea Cups (one of only 4 teacups with people in them!), and then headed to Tomorrowland where I rode AstoOrbiter (which typically has a crazy ling wait but which was under 5mins!) and then Peoplemover which was a walk-on. Tron was in standby line mode, who DH is never a thing except at this event; usually you have to get a Virtual Queue boarding group or purchase an Individual Lightning Lane. I figured the line would be crazy so I was saving that for last, but saw from Peoplemover that it wasn’t visible outdoors, so it couldn’t be very long.

After grabbing another Mickey Sandwich and water I headed that way and found a TWENTY MINUTE WAIT!!! 😳😳😳😳 This is very low for this immensely popular attraction, and quite UNHEARD of!! I got to ride with a first-timer which is always fun! I snagged another water (I was saving these, not floating away LOL) and a popcorn for later, and went to 7D for my last ride of the night with just a 20 minute wait!

After Hours tells you you will enjoy:
*entry as early as 7pm
*the opportunity to see Happily Ever After AND Enchantment
*unlimited complimentary popcorn (2 for me), soda (1 for me), water (5 for me), and Mickey Bars (👎🏼 0 for me 😝)) and Sandwiches (👍🏼2 for me 😋 )
*low crowds
*short waits for attractions

I am here to tell you it was ALL of that and such a fun way to spend late night at Magic Kingdom, which is always extra magical! Run, don’t walk, to the next After Hours event, and if you don’t know when that is hit that message me button now and I can help!

After a lovely afternoon at Epcot I returned to my resort (yes, it’s Port Orleans French Quarter Kelly!!) to get everything sorted in my room.

(And have a quick nap!)

I love the vibe of this quaint resort! My room was upgraded to a river view, and I’m close to everything. Then again POFQ is so compact it’s hard to be far from anything!

It has already been a pretty MAGICAL start!

My flight landed 25 mins early, there was no line at the car rental counter, and a bus to Epcot was just waiting for me when I arrived at the bus stop!

The weather is perfect, especially coming from
The cold north, and I’m enjoying strolling around. I stopped to say hello to my good friend Walt at Dreamer’s Point, having walked right across the park from The Land. If you’ve visited Epcot in the last 5 years you know what that was a big deal!

I grabbed my first Festival of the Arts food, a very generous serving of PEI mussels which were delicious! And now I’m off to save the galaxy.

It’s a great day to be at Epcot!
