Go Surf & SUP school is a STOKE Benchmarked surf school that operates on Gunditjmara land along the beautiful beaches and waterways of Port Fairy, Warrnmabool and Cape Bridgewater in South West Victoria, Australia. Go Surf has benchmarked very highly interms of risk and safety compliance, not surprising as owner and former National Development officer for surfing Australia Keith Curtain played a key role in developing the professional standard for Surfing Australia surf schools, Australia-wide.

As a certified member since 2018, Olas Verdes has taken pride in their sustainability leadership even before building began. When commencing construction of the eco-resort, OV custom-cut their roofing and created vegetation overhangs to leave native trees intact. The resort’s famous pool is surrounded by beautiful murals of upcycled glass, with monkeys overhead swinging through a large Jobo tree that the pool shape was designed around, using tree aeration wells to avoid suffocating its root system. These initiatives spared over 90% of the preexisting trees on the property. Olas Verdes started off on the right foot and they continue to lead sustainability pactices in Costa Rica.

Surf Clube de Viana is a non-profit founded in 1989 as the first surf school in Portugal. In 2019, the Surf Clube de Vianna’s EuroSurf Adaptive became the first STOKE Certified event in Europe and it was the first surf event in Portugal completely powered by renewable energies. Their HQ and beach pathways are all accessible with ramps, facilities, and equipment (ex: hippocampus wheelchair, surf boards, gear, etc.) for all physical and mental disabilities. Lastly, the Surf Clube de Viana organizes specialist surf coach training courses on water safety and rescue for people with disabilities with the Portuguese Surfing Federation and the local lifeguard association. Tucked away on the Coral Coast of Fiji, Matanivusi Beach Eco Resort is a hidden gem championing sustainability in paradise. From their renewable energy sources to their work with the local Vunaniu village, Matanivusi’s commitment to sustainability is essential in preserving Fiji’s beautiful coastline and pumping waves. Matanivusi was the very first resort certified by STOKE 10 years ago and has continued to implement new sustainability initatives every year.

Mt. Ashland Ski Resort emphasizes the importance of their cultural heritage as a part of their ski culture. Considering important historical, archeological, and resilient sites/practices, Mt. Ashland has been a spearhead for STOKE’s cultural heritage impacts management sector. As well as highlighting the importance of Mt. Ashland’s history and culture, the resort is also involved in a mutually beneficial relationship with the local community today. In addition to a work force of 95% local employees, Mt. Ashland also hosts a Ski Against Hunger Food Drive for their local food bank: ACCESS, After School Youth Programs, and Winter Wellness Days. ❄️⛄️⛷️

STOKE certified location Surf Clube De Viana(SVC) has many energy efficient measures throughout their buildings. Because of these initiatives, the SCV has minimal Scope 2 grid carbon emissions and minimal Scope 1 carbon emissions. Their carbon footprint is just 19 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide. To 100% offset their 2020 footprint the SCV partnered with the Plantar uma Árvore organization to plant trees in a wildfire-stricken area. Tavarua Island Resort, located in the Mamanuca Group of Islands, Fiji, exemplifies sustainable paradise. STOKE is beyond thrilled to work with the world’s longest-lived and most famous surf resort. Tavarua is committed to the preservation of local coral reefs. 483 panels + Power Packs battery storage combine to provide 1.4 megawatt hours of renewable power (aka a lot!) to every large structure on the island, including the restaurant, administration building, and staff quarters. What a great way to kick off Fiji's reopening and .

Lexi Dowdall of Kapowder and Director of Freeride for the International Free Skiers Association has collected snow from Utah ski resorts for her watercolor collection about the effects of climate change on the winter tourism industry. She'll be donating 5% of proceeds to Protect Our Winters!
