Zanskar is one of the known Buddhist kingdoms of the western Himalayas within elevation of 12000 feet. Zanskar is a sub district of Kargil located interior of Ladakh region with Padum as its administrative centre. Zanskar is the most isolated part of Trans Himalaya region. Once it was the part of the Guge kingdom in Tibet, Zanskar is now integral part of India.

Pleasant climate, landscape, snow-capped Himalayan Mountains and sparking rivers makes Zanskar a perfect holiday destination for worldwide tourists.

Zanskar is located 105 kms from Leh and is popular with its adventures junkies. Zanskar is a hotspot for trekking, paragliding and water rafting. Some famous treks are Lamayuru to Darcha, Lamayuru – Padum trek. Majority of the people in Zanskar are Tibetan Buddhist. People in Zanskar speak Zanskar, and they also speak Hindi, Ladakhi and Urdu. The temperature in Zanskar is cold around minus 300C during winter. While it remains pleasant during day in summer. The best time to visit zanaskar is between June and September.

Some of the famous tourist attractions in Zanskar district are the monasteries, Zongla, Zongkhul, Stongdey. One can visit these places at least 2 – 3 days trip in Zanskar.

Monastery in Nubra Valley

Diskit, mostly because of the 106 ft tall Maitreya Buddha statue, has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ladakh. This Buddha statue in gold and red faces the Shyok River towards Pakistan, right below the monastery on the top of a hill. Consecrated by the Dalai Lama in the year 2010, the statue is said to signify and promote three intrinsic ideas – protection of Diskit Village, prevention of further war with Pakistan, and promotion of world peace.

The Diskit Gompa, milky white, is nestled on a high hill at the edge of a road that links with Parthapur and Those. You need to hike up to the monastery alongside the stunning white Chortens.

Hamboting La (Pass)- It is located at an elevation of 4.056m (13307 FT) above sea level. Another highest pass which lead to Batalik sector. The steep cuts, vertical climbs, sheer drop and sharp turns make this route more adventures. This high pass leads to Batalik sector (which is very near to international border) A***n Valley and then to Leh.

Famously known as the gateway to the Nubra and Shyok Valleys in the Ladakh region of union territory of ladakh. It is the highest motorable pass in the world. It is filled with tourists crossing over from Leh and stopping long enough to click some photographs. Adventure bikers from all parts of our country and across the world visit this mountain pass on their motorcycles for an adventure soaked experience. Khardung La Pass is positioned on the Ladakh range, which is 40 km from Leh, at an altitude of 18,379 ft (5602 m).

Thikse Gompa or Thikse Monastery (also transliterated from Ladakhi as Tiksey, Thiksey or Thiksay) is a gompa (Tibetan-style monastery) affiliated with the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located on top of a hill in Thiksey approximately 19 kilometres (12 mi) east of Leh in Ladakh, India.[1] It is noted for its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, and is the largest gompa in central Ladakh, notably containing a separate set of buildings for female renunciates that has been the source of significant recent building and reorganisation.

Gonbo Rangjon is a stand-alone lofty rocky precipice located in Kargyak village of Zanskar , Ladakh. It is considered to be holy by the local inhabitants who practice Tibetian Buddhism . Gonbo Rangjon can be seen from the village of Kargyak which is about 16 kilometres away. The Gonbo Rangjon precipice is at the altitude of 5,486 metres.
The place is excellent for camping.
