Hindi Diwas is just the perfect occasion to remember some Hindi literature luminaire. And Mahadevi Verma was an identity to reckon. Seems so inappropriate to write this in English.

What an eye opening walk it was in 2019 when we could see the historic place that we had only read about. The place where my grandfather- in- law and grandmother-in-law had also visited during the freedom movement.
Many documented and many undocumented stories shared. Felt the goosebumps both then and now.

During the 73rd Independence Day Week , it was exhilarating to visit the Naini Central Jail . A separate cell for Nehru has been well preserved just as his documentation through his prison diaries and letters. These have resulted in many books. His letters to his father, sisters( Vijay Lakshmi Pandit , affectionately called Nan by Nehru and Krishna Hatheesingh, called Betty) and daughter Indira have resulted in great publications.

Celebrating World Photography Day with an exclusive glimpse of AG Office, Allahabad (Prayagraj)!

The four grand buildings of AG Office, Board of Revenue, Department of Higher Education and UP Police Headquarters were built in the 1860s. They were designed by Colonel Peile for administrative use when Allahabad was the capital city of North Western Provinces. The buildings are identical and symmetrically placed abutting the erstwhile Queen's Road, receded by sprawling lawns. The architecture style belongs to the mid-colonial period with heavy traces of military style of construction.

It's finally here! The My City My Heritage booklet for Prayagraj documents a mix of well-known as well as offbeat subjects from among the city's cultural heritage.

Happy to see how our collaborations with Sahapedia lead to more enriching content on Prayagraj and it's heritage!

Do check out this abridged version, parts by Kavita Gupta, all other collaborators and photographs by Vaibhav Maini!

| Prayagraj, the seventh largest city in the state of Uttar Pradesh, has had many names, from Prayag to Allahabad. Today, it is best known for its proximity to the Triveni Sangam, or the holy confluence of the three rivers of Yamuna, Ganga and Sarasvati, and the major Hindu pilgrimage of the Kumbh Mela. The My City My Heritage booklet for Prayagraj documents a mix of well-known as well as offbeat subjects from among Prayagraj’s cultural heritage.

Last year it was February 21st when our enthusiastic group went to Loknath area to celebrate Maha Shivratri. It is a Hindu festival celebrated across India on the new moon day in the month of Magha according to the Hindu calendar. There are many mythological legends associated with it. While one lore believes that formless God appears in the form of “Lingodbhav Moorti” at midnight on Shivratri. Thus the Shaivites keep vigil at night and sing to his praise.
The other is that when the Gods and demons churned the ocean together to obtain ambrosia that lay in its depths, a pot of poison emerged. Lord Shiva consumed this poison, saving both the Gods and mankind. The poison lodged in the Lord’s throat, turning him blue. To honor the savior of the world, Shivratri is celebrated. One more legend is that as Goddess Ganga descended from heaven in full force, Lord Shiva caught her in his matted locks, and released her on to Earth as several streams. This prevented destruction on Earth. As a tribute to Him, the Shivalinga is bathed on this auspicious night
But the most celebratory is that that Lord Shiva married Parvati on this day. So, it is a celebration of this sacred union.
Whatever be the reason the fast to feast is a must. And what better way to see the spread and celebrations than to go to Loknath Temple at Allahabad. What is most interesting is the way the locals create a Baraat or the marriage procession with the deities and unusual followers along with Bhoot and Nandi.
We did exactly that. We saw the legends get alive at Chowk. We met at 2.00 pm and joined the procession that went to Katyayani Devi Temple for Shivji wed Parvati ji. Not to forget the lavish spread of what we call the falahaar or non grain food.
Our group was nostalgic enough to recall it with wonder even today. It was an event curated for # India Heritage Walk Festival 2020

City My Heritage by Foundation helped us organize An event it was with by . It was wonderful interacting with these curious young ladies who connected the dots from their History curriculum and the stories. Those who created & appreciated the diversity in the four Churches that existed in close vicinity. Their questions brought out many layers during our interactive session with them.
