The pagoda that never was.
The pagoda that never was.

In Mingun, a small village just a quick boat ride from Mandalay, there is a pagoda that never was. The massive unfinished pagoda was built by King Bodawpaya, the 6th King of the Konbaung Dynasty. The King intended the pagoda to be 152 meters high. In 1790, construction of the massive pagoda started and reached a height of 50 meters, one-third of the intended height. Due to unavailability of labor and two strong earthquake that damaged it, the pagoda was never finished.

Travel_leap

Travel Leap aims to inspire to travel consciously, through travel-guide style journalism and photography from our adventures around the world.

Having experienced some polluted places throughout our travels we aim to promote a more sustainable way of experiencing our planet, while being true to the destination.

We are Anastasia and Jean-Pierre, an Italian and South African who met in Durban, South Africa in 2012, when destiny brought us to live in the same place at the bottom of the world. Travel_Leap also represents our own personal ‘leap’. In December 2017 after 10 years of 9 to 5 work-life in marketing and advertising, we decided to take this leap for ourselves. We quit our jobs, sold all our things, squeezed our lives into two backpacks and bought a ticket to Chile. So far we have travelled to Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and we are currently exploring South East Asia.

Our mission is to make everyone fall in love with the world and be inspired to travel with an open heart and sustainable soul. We hope that our journeys, photos and stories will make everyone realise that beauty is not an exception in this world and can be found even in the most unexpected places.
