Riding holidays – September 2024 special edition: a celebration of Equestrian Art

Welcome to Equiliberdade Farm, a tranquil oasis filled with Lusitano horses surrounded by Ribatejo vineyards.
Situated 45 minutes away from Lisbon, we offer unique and personalised equestrian stays.

Our purpose, is for our guests to experience and connect with our horses, feeling at one with their rhythm. From beginners to Prix St Georges, discover our beautiful surroundings with all levels of Lusitanos.
Learn and improve your skills with private dressage lessons from our classical Rider Instructor; explore and feel free through trail rides with our experienced guides.

Staying in our charming cottages, our guests are fully immersed in Portugal’s warm and vibrant culture.
Close to idyllic beaches and Lisbon’s lively energy, we cater to your needs and taste for adventure by giving you the most local and authentic recommendations.

This special edition is focused on the 45th anniversary of the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art. In celebration, they have organised what is to a beautiful show; inviting the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre, and the Abu Dhabi Royal Equestrian Arts.

You can have a dressage lesson in the morning and a trail ride on the surrounding nature landscape of Ribatejo in the afternoon.
There are 10 calm and well-schooled Lusitanos available for riding and every horse is perfectly matched to their rider; there really is no other way to learn the classical movements or learn to ride than on the back of a beautiful Lusitano horse, with their striking presence and flair.

I think my students know the meaning of this text! And they recognise lots of my words on the lessons,

- When my instructor repeats to me: - Straighten your shoulders and open your chest!” He’s not just teaching me how to stand up. He's teaching me that in life we should always walk straight and face problems head on.

- When my instructor asks me to lower my legs and keep them close to the horse, he teaches me that in life we do not allow distractions and that little is enough to deviate from his path.

- When my instructor tells me "Too much hand, don't hang on to the reins! "He teaches me to give and not to take, with the greatest respect of others.

- When he yells and repeats endlessly: "Look forward in the direction you want to go!” He teaches me the importance of setting goals and never losing sight of them to achieve them.

- When I ask to move up or do more and my instructor says I'm not ready, he teaches me that in life you must always respect your rhythm and never skip the steps.

- When I fall and get back up, I learn that there are always setbacks, times when we back up, but the important thing is to get up more determined than before.

- If I hold my breath during a ride and he jokingly tells me "breathe! You are purple!” I understand that you have to let your emotions flow in order to get rid of them.

- When at the end of the course I am happy with the work done and my instructor says to me′ ′Well done, thank your teacher′′ I know he is not referring to himself but to my horse.

- Now you, you who are watching a rider pass in the saddle, keep saying that riding is not a sport because it is the horse that does everything.
I agree.
Horse riding is not a sport.
It is a life lesson.

Always moving forward

“Eu cometi inúmeros erros na preparação de milhares de cavalos. Felizmente sou consciente dessas faltas e erros, porque de outra forma, nunca teria chegado a progredir.
Sei que hoje tenho muito que aprender e vou continuar a aprender até ao día que morra, não só montando, como também estudando, pensando profundamente e observando.
O estudo e a meditação dos escritos dos grandes mestres, devem ser levados à escola de equitação, que é o equivalente à mesa de trabalho e cada bom professor de ensino, devem preparar um programa de acordo com o nível do seu aluno, decidindo um por um os passos a dar, com o fim de superar as dificuldades.
