A few birds seen locally this month: A couple of displaying Black Grouse, a female Crossbill, a male Crossbill, and three – Little Auk, Male Long Tailed Duck, and Purple Sandpiper - from the Moray Coast , all taken by Steve Nicklin, as I went out with no memory card in my camera that day! Doh!

Hi. A bit of very sad news to deliver. I’m afraid ☹

Poor old Murdo the magnificent hairy Highland Coo, and his Mate Buster the friendly Sheep, at Castle Roy, had been really struggling with their health and mobility for quite a while now, and with it turning colder, their ‘carers’ have had to make the very difficult, but ultimately, the kindest decision, to end their suffering…. ☹

I was lucky to be told , so I got the chance to make one last visit yesterday (see pics) to thank them for putting smiles on so many faces over the last 10 years, and to bid them a tearful final farewell with lots of pats, and their favourite carrots and apples, of course.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I was a blubbering wreck, as they were big characters that I considered ‘friends’, and were a big part of my safari life for quite a while, and I know that I , and lots of other people, will really miss them both ☹

So if you were lucky enough to meet them while visiting us up here, or have just enjoyed seeing my photos of them, I’m sure you too will be sad , and I hope you will join me in raising a glass to them – Rest in peace old friends…. ☹
