It's been a busy day, packing and shipping trees, working on greenware for the kiln and glazing a couple of stoneware bowls.

Visiting with Ed in the chicken shed, I couldn't resist taking a couple of pictures of him with his best chicken friend :-) She's about 9 weeks old and was viciously attacked by the older hens. Ed has had her in the screen room isolated, in his makeshift hospital, for the past 2 weeks. We reintroduced her to her flock last night and she seems to be doing OK.

Last night as I walked from the studio to the house this flock of beauties greeted me, they all came running to see if I had treats for them. I didn't have treats, but I did take time to sit down in the grass and do some petting. We let them out in the evening to forage and eat grass, during the day they are confined to their run and shed. We don't want to have a daily egg hunt for hidden nests and most of the hens have finished laying by 4PM.
They look like docile birds, but they are really the mean girl group, LOL We have teenagers (Ed's term for them), they are big enough to leave the shed, but these girls aren't having it. They post prison wardens at the door and refuse to let the spring chickens go out.

Finished this tree and wanted to share a picture. Special order that was a bit out of my comfort zone :-) I've worked with fired gold and mother of pearl for many years, but had not attempted it on the Frazier Fir. It was a tedious project and took longer than anticipated, but WOW! The glow is just beautiful. I'll take better pictures later, but was excited and wanted to share.

I'm finishing trees today while the girls play with clay. I promised a weekend of clay fun and we're well into it. They are also really great at collecting eggs and feeding the chickens :-)

I'm stocked up on shipping supplies! Ed and I were both worn out by the time we stashed all of those peanuts in the rafters yesterday. I have tried other, more green products, for packaging my trees and unfortunately it wasn't safe. So, I do encourage my buyers to find a way to reuse the packing material that the trees arrive in. I'm sure that someone in your area sells on-line and would love to receive free packing supplies (I know I would). A quick curb alert on Facebook Marketplace would work for this if you don't know someone personally.

I've been busy in the studio finishing tree orders. 7 trees will be picked up by UPS tomorrow, they will be delivered to their new homes early next week.
These pictures show some of my process in completing trees.

Today is a glaze day, these 2 trees will go in the kiln tonight. Ed's working in the yard and found this baby squirrel, or rather it found him last night and came back to visit today. We left some nuts and grapes out for it. Later it brought back a sibling for more treats. I don't think I've ever seen a baby squirrel so little and friendly.

Never did I ever think I'd be cooking breakfast or Chickens 🙂
Last fall I had excess eggs, I tried the water glass method of preserving eggs. It's a process of storing fresh eggs in a container of water and pickling lime. I thought I'd open up a bucket and test them out, they looked good, none were floating, which is a sign of a bad egg. I cracked a pan full, stirred them up with some red pepper flakes an other dehydrated herbs and the chickens loved them.
Best thing is the eggs were still good, I will be doing this again and I've been told they will still be good a year and more as long as the water level is over the eggs.
