James Ashwell set sail in search of freedom, leaving behind the hustle of a successful career and embracing a life filled with adventure. With two close friends and a dream of exploring distant lands, James took to the sea on Uhuru of London, a 62-foot yacht named after the Swahili word for "freedom." After navigating the Caribbean and the South Pacific, Ashwell's dream of reaching the Solomon Islands finally became a reality in 2023.
From navigating the narrow Ngella Channel to magical dives at Leru cut in Russel Island, the crew discovered the islands' stunning landscapes, lush jungles and deep connections they made with the locals. They made their final stop at Marovo (Western Province) the world's largest double barrier reef lagoon. Picture-perfect days spent water-skiing at sunset, trading tools for lobster with friendly locals, and exploring the untouched wilderness of Tetepare Island.
James set sail not for fame or success, but to embrace the unknown, Solomon Islands gave him just exactly that, moments of magic, adventure, and connection that will forever be part of his incredible story.
