The sound of Scuba diving: Are we noise polluting marine life? 🐠🙉🤔

While it is obvious that things like boats can be heard by marine life under the water, what about human activities like swimming, canoeing and scuba diving?

Breath of scuba diving in your daily routine 💙📚

Do you remember this exciting feeling of your first dive, when any marine life spotted is pure happiness? When you dream to dive at least 300 times a year and visit the most popular diving spots all over the world at once, but let’s be clear - this is impossible, unless you’re a PADI Course Director with multiple locations worldwide (ask Mark Soworka).

Still you can turn your “non-diving” time into your own scuba diving bucket list, with must visit spots and must see rare whale and shark species for your next trip. Go through best-selling diving books and DVDs to become your source and inspiration.

SCUBA Travel are pleased to release their annual list of the best-selling diving books and DVDs. Fifty Places to Dive Before You Die keeps its top spot for another year, although it was run very close by the perennially popular Dive Atlas of the World. Four new entries prop up the list, including th...

Diver vs Physical Laws

Every diver knows at least 3 physical laws (even if you didn’t attend physics classes). Have you noticed that everything is bigger underwater? Put on your mask, go underwater and easily read data from your diving watch, for example - this is Snell’s Law. Always take care of neutral buoyancy ? - this is Archimedes’ Principal: in order not to sink or float you should think of BCD. And finally, Boyle’s Law - never hold your breath underwater (unless you’re a freediver, but this is a totally different story) - the deeper you go the higher water pressure is.

Scuba diving makes you smart. Most people think science is for geeks, but scuba divers get it – we see how physics applies in real life.

Active Scuba Diver? Click It!

Researchers ask active scuba divers to take part in an online survey containing 64 yes/no questions. The idea of the survey is to calculate CVD risks and to build accurate guidelines to help scuba divers to improve their health issues and reduce diving fatalities.

The purpose of this research study is to collect anonymous information from active scuba divers regarding their diving habits and their overall health status. This information would assist us towards developing a consistent background for the scuba divers’ ten-year cardiovascular risk and help us ...

No more harm to sharks

Salford University scientists found an easy and non-costly method to study sharks - take a seawater sample to track the predators. Like any other animals, sharks leave their DNA samples everywhere they swim and water keeps this information for several days (2 weeks max) before it is destroyed by UV.

A simple bottle of seawater shows the identifiable tracks of numerous species of shark - no need for baiting, hooking, filming or tagging.

Marine Life in Bermuda Needs Protection

For the recent years marine life protection has become the #1 issue all over the world. In Bermuda, many underwater species are disappearing, for example. The harm we, humans, do to the environment is huge. And if you think that you, as an individual, can’t do anything to stop it - you’re totally wrong. Start from yourself and you’ll see world changing.

Take an interactive dive into Bermuda's waters and marvel at the exotic marine life which we must protect for future generations to enjoy.

Dolphin as your best partner in crime 🎣🐬

If you're a fisherman from Laguna, Brazil and hunting on your own - you’re doing something totally wrong. Local bottlenose dolphins have learnt to force fish to the fishermen's nets and after giving a signal to the partner, keep their mouth open to have a lunch with the ones untrapped. Classic case of win-win 😀

Dolphins that hunt alongside humans have a different way of communicating.

Pink Dolphins have their own Hero 💕🐬

Fernando Trujillo, a biologist from Colombia, has been risking his life to protect pink dolphins of the Amazon. Local people from dangerous Amazon areas didn’t always receive him welcoming, but Fernando didn’t stop. These rare river dolphins are under threat because of over-fishing. The biologist is their last hope.

Fernando Trujillo works in dangerous areas of the Amazon to save the rare species.
