From the breathtaking fortress of Alhambra, beautiful garden at Generalife palace, Arab quarters at Albayzin to grandeur of Granada cathedral, gypsy quarters of Sacromonte and serenity of monasteries, and grand chapel, Granada is a mesmerizing city at the foot hill of Sierra Nevada mountains!

It’s culinary feat is no small deal - dominated by delicious Spanish food - with your order of beer or glass of wine, pick up a free tapa of “sumptuous portion” from the menu!! Tapas can include anything from jamon serrano, patata bravas chicken curry, to pork skewers, mini burgers and deep fried calamari.

About this time last year, when we were doing a "rekki" in Catalonia we took a day trip to Girona. Not really going anywhere one day we just saw a road sign "Girona" and thought that might be nice. We were not disappointed.

With it's walled Fortresses, medieval Old Quarter, Cathedral (For Game Of Thrones fans- Series 6), lanes and cafe's with local musicians adding the audio backtrack. Sometimes dubbed a mini Barcelona (who actually dubs these things) for a busy tourist City it more serene than bustling atmosphere. Walk the walled fortress or stroll the gardens and cobbled streets. Climb the stairs to the watchtower and take in the fabulous views over the local countryside.

An amalgam of Roman, Moorish and Frank Architecture there is so much to see from the medieval to the contemporary painted houses on the banks of the Onyar River. Walk over the bridge to the Plaza De La Constitution and if you haven't already succumbed you can enjoy lunch on the Plaza in one of the many cafe's and reataurants.
Girona, not exactly a hidden gem but if you are in Barcelona or Costa Brava, do not overlook it. We nearly did !!
