IMAGINE!

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me - "The Twelve Days of Christmas".

What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?

This week, I found out.

From 1558 until 1829, church in England was persecuted, and not permitted to worship openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol.

It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of the church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.
"My true love" means God. God sends gifts to us daily.

• The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

• Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

• Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

• The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

• The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

• The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

• Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

• The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

• Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.

• The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.

• The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
• The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles'.

This is a history lesson for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening.


Now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol.

If you aspire to be a useful tool in the hands of the Lord in this end-time, there is AN URGENT need to return to the New Testament principles of following Jesus Christ. Particularly on the subject of the cross, the subject of suffering.

To make full proof of your ministry and fulfil your spiritual destiny:

Please train your mind to UNDERSTAND the SUFFERING that comes from God.

Train your mind to ACCEPT the SUFFERING that comes from God.

Train your mind to EMBRACE the SUFFERING that comes from God.

Train your mind to REJOICE in the SUFFERING that comes from God.

Enduring SUFFERING patiently is a virtue that God expects in every true soldier of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 2:3).

Therefore, be prepared to abandon yourself in the place of suffering for as long as God wants, and as often as He wants.

In the Christian faith, the place of service is a place of suffering. That is, the suffering that comes from God – not the suffering that comes from our sins, foolishness, disobedience, fearfulness, etc.

The man that shields you from suffering shields you from your destiny. Run away from such a man!!! Like Jesus, recognise that it is Satan that is speaking through such a man. So, your response to such a man should be: “Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” (Matthew 16:23).

In these days, the more you train your mind to suffer, the more you would be useful in the hands of God. And the more you dodge suffering, the more you are running away from your spiritual destiny; wasting the spiritual talent God has given you to trade with (Matthew 25:14-30). All unprofitable servants will have their part in the lake of fire that burns forever (verse 30).

Suffering is an endless, cyclic course from which a believer never fully graduates. On this platform, God willing, we’ll be examining some aspects of Christian suffering in coming weeks/months. Please come along on this exciting journey.

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory….” (2 Corinthians 4:17).

After your suffering, your glory is GUARANTEED (2 Timothy 2:12).
