📅 Last May, over 100 media archivists, managers, and researchers gathered in Dublin for FIAT/IFTA's 11th "Changing Sceneries, Changing Roles" Seminar. The discussions focused on the impact of AI, sustainability, and the future of media archives.

Last Thursday evening, the FIAT/IFTA Awards Show took place at Palatul Bragadiru in Bucharest.

The FIAT/IFTA community came together to celebrate 11 shortlisted projects for 4 categories.

We are proud to announce the winners of the FIAT/IFTA Archive Achievement Awards:

◾ Excellence in Media Management: "A+E Networks Showcase" by TMT Insights.

◾ Excellence in Media Preservation: "Safeguarding Afghan AV heritage" by Institut national de l'audiovisuel.
◾ Excellence in Unlocking the Value and Potential of Archives: "Our Strategic Journey to Connect with a Diverse Audience" by CBC/Radio-Canada.

◾ Excellence in Archive Production: "Godforsaken" by VRT.

🚀 New Leadership Announced at FIAT/IFTA!

Following the General Assembly on October 17th, 2024, at the FIAT/IFTA World Conference in Bucharest, we’re thrilled to announce Virginia Bazán-Gil, Head of Archives at RTVE (Spain), as the newly elected FIAT/IFTA President!

Additionally, we welcome six new Executive Council members:

Our final shortlisted project in the Archive Production category is "Behind the Scenes: Kavčí hory" by Czech TV.

This exciting detective podcast explores the lives of six key figures from Czech television history, blending archival materials, new interviews, music, and narration by well-known actors. Released in May 2023, it offers an engaging look at the role of television during socialism and beyond.

Continuing with the Archive Production category, today we spotlight "Mother Suriname" by Sound & Vision - Research & Heritage.

This documentary, directed by Tessa Leuwsha, tells the story of a Surinamese woman’s life alongside Suriname’s recent history. Made entirely from archival footage, primarily from Dutch archives, the film reinterprets these images from a fresh, inclusive perspective. Premiering at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam in November 2023, it showcases how archives can be used to tell powerful new stories.

Today we introduce "Godforsaken" by VRT, a powerful documentary series that follows 20 Belgian survivors of abuse by Catholic priests.

Through courageous testimonies and over 500 archive fragments, this series confronts those responsible and unveils the truth. The documentary sparked an emotional shockwave across Belgium, leading to widespread reactions, including a parliamentary inquiry.
