Great job Steve and Matt. It’s great to carve your own decoys. Them be able to hunt over them watch birds come in and take a few. Them watch more birds come in all morning.

Moodys came for Georgia. Had two fantastic day on the Maine coast. Day one was Eiders and Long Tails. They even ask me to join in. I was able to take two Eider. Day two was Scoter day. Was able to get two out the three. The white wing will be next time. Plus a hen eider to got with a Drake Eider they got day one. Great job both of you. That’s going to be a hefty taxidermist bill.

Today was saved for my son. He turn 20 today. He invited a friend of ours plus his boss from when he worked on a charter boat as a deck hand. I was a great day. Plus I got into the action a little.

Day three of South Dakota coming to Maine. It was a target hunt of Surf Scoter and White Wing Scoter.
The Surf was the only the only one we could get. Plenty of white wing hens came through. Had a chance at two Whit Wings but couldn’t connect.

South Dakota has come to Maine. Day one was play hide and seek from the Westerly wind. Which I can do. Bill was able to scored the nice Drake Eider and two nice Drake Long Tails. Day two was perfect out. Bill did so good day two was done in short time with Drake and Hen Eider plus two Drake Common Scoters. I asked if I could do a little shooting also he go ahead. Day three will come Monday.

The Houser’s came from up state NY. Dad took one Long Tail. The boys tried and did real good. Congratulations on your birds boys. Finally had a chance to get Drake doing what he loves.

Well day 2 didn’t disappoint. Was able to get Shawna and Erich son Carson out also. Carson great job on your fist sea duck hunt. Two Drake Eiders and Drake Long Tail. It was a great family day out there for them. I enjoyed taking you all out. Carson enjoy your nap little man.

Do to cancellation I have up to four day available. December 2-5 and 9-10 are open. Client’s can pick what days. Plus December 30 is open.

Well delayed start for me to the season. First weekend was called do to gale force winds and seas a little to rough. This Saturday was perfect weather wise. Zack didn’t have any problem today. He took his time a shot what he wanted. Had plenty of Eiders landing in the decoys or swimming into them. I was even in on the action with one Drake Eider. Thanks Zack for letting me help in your adventure.

Todays storm. Thanks to Benjamin Williamson Photography for having the share opportunity on his page. If you want to go out in the bay on nicer days between Casco Bay and S**o Bay hit me up. I go out and scout for birds sometimes on Sundays.

Sea Monster -

I can't believe I got to see this today after yesterday's incredible sunrise in the mountains.

With the forecast for yet another powerful storm, I knew I couldn't miss the opportunity, so I decided to head down to Fort Williams Park, which I believe is the best place to see big surf. Since I had photographed Portland Head Light extensively in the huge storm a year ago, I chose to spend extra time today focusing on Ram Island Ledge Lighthouse, which sits offshore.

The big difference in this storm and others I've photographed in years past was the appearance of the sun just after the peak of high tide and the largest waves. The sunlight provided incredible contrast and some Turner-esque colors as it shone. The waves were getting a little bit smaller as the sun came out, but this monster came just in time. I loved seeing just the top of the lighthouse, which stands 72 feet from the base, as it was swallowed by the wall of water.

I have a lot to catch up on. Being a professional photographer is a balancing act between being out in the field, gathering photos (the fun part), and responding to emails, administrative tasks, prepping and planning, assembling prints, etc. (the not-so-fun part). I'm slightly out of balance at the moment!
