Kuenzangling, situated in Dungkar, Lhuentse in eastern Bhutan, is a site of profound spiritual significance. The temple, celebrated for its beauty and importance, is considered one of the eight lings or sacred sites associated with the revered Tibetan scholar Kuenkhyen Longchen Rabjam. Inside the temple, you'll find a statue of Zambala, the deity of prosperity and wealth, alongside Buddha Amitayus, both of which were crafted by the great Terton Pema Lingpa. The temple also houses Terton Pema Lingpa's cauldron, which he personally used, as well as a self-emerging Conch, further enhancing its spiritual value.

The temple's inner sanctum holds the revered eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara statue. The intricate murals within the temple depict dharma protectors Gempo Maning, Za Rahula, and Damchen Dorji Lekpa.

Just outside the temple stands a stone with a story โ€“ it is believed that Longchen defeated an evil spirit at this very spot. Nearby, holy water can be found, as well as Longchen's well-preserved footprint. Adjacent to this, there is a seat where Longchen engaged in sun-directed meditation, a unique form of contemplation.

The takin, Bhutan's national animal, has a captivating origin story steeped in local mythology. Legend has it that Lama Drukpa Kuenley, a revered Buddhist saint known as "The Divine Madman," created the takin by magically combining the head of a goat with the skeleton of an ox. Today, this rare species, vulnerable and with some subspecies considered endangered, can be observed at the Royal Takin Preserve in Thimphu. The preserve not only offers a glimpse of this remarkable animal but also provides opportunities to spot other wildlife such as deer, wild boar, pheasants, and a solitary yak.
