The lion saw the eland long before the eland heard him. That’s the way it always is, instinct moving ahead of awareness. The morning was golden and quiet, grass swaying secrets in the hush before the hunt. No one asked who deserved to live. No one cried foul. The wind simply carried the scent of what was to come.

The eland didn't plead. He ran. He always ran. The trees didn’t lean in to protect him. The sky didn’t shift in protest. He ran because running was the only thing he knew.

The lioness didn’t apologize. She lunged. She always lunged. Not because she hated him, animals don’t know hate, but because her stomach echoed hollow and her teeth ached for purpose. No blood had been spilled yet, but still, the earth braced itself. And the birds, those small gods of the in-between, took flight as if to say: we don’t take sides.

There was no judge in that open savannah. No jury to weigh their histories, no moral compass spinning wildly toward guilt or grace. Only the trees watching. Only the sun bearing witness. Nature doesn’t ask why. It only asks: what now?

With a final leap, the lioness closed the gap and brought the Eland down. There were no cries. No curses hurled into the wind. Just the sound of breath leaving a body and entering another. The lion didn’t apologize. The eland didn’t plead. Nature has no courtroom. Only witnesses.
And the grass closed around them like memory. Silent. Certain.

He opened his mouth, let out a tiny squeak🤭
But in his little heart, it was a roar😂

One day, the Savannah will pause to listen.
But for now, we just smile, and whisper back,
"You're doing great, little king."

Tembo by Jackson, l’Identité Massaï!
